Chapter Three

The Shape of Water

Blaire POV
We stopped by a nearby lake, it was so beautiful, it was out of the zombie crowds, maybe there was one or two, but other than that it was amazing. “We’re gonna go in the house, make sure it’s secure...Blaire?” I snapped out of it,”Blaire?”
“Hm?”
“We’re gonna make sure the house is safe for us”
“Yeah sure, go ahead, I’m gonna go over there”  Patrick handed me a gun,”Just in case, alright?” I nodded and I walked over to the lake deck, I just sat there, looking up at the moon, wondering about Marilyn, Fynn, the others. Dylan sat next to me 15 minutes later,”Hey”
“Hi”
“You okay?” I shook my head and he pulled me in as I laid my head on him,“I can’t pretend what just happened back there” He sighed and kissed my head,”I know Blaire, I can’t get it out of my head, seeing the others staying behind”
“All I think is that they died because of us, but at the same time, I want to think that they risked their lives for us”
“I can understand that, even Michelle did it for all of us” I agreed with him,”The water looks nice tonight” He said to me and I responded,”It would feel nice to be in water again”
“Do you want to?”
“Are you sure Dylan? I mean, there’s…” He shrugged,”Dylan, we can’t especially at this time, the sun is coming down”
“Would be nice to go into the water”
“Would be nice to have our lives back” He told me to look at him in the eye,”We’re gonna get back in one piece, okay? We didn’t come this far to die. We came this far for us, for them…” The walkie came on an hour later,”Dinner’s ready” Cayden told us and we came back,”The water might be working here surprisingly, but we shouldn’t use it too long, we need to conserve the energy here”
“This stew looks good?”
“It’s soup” Nolan said as he put out the food, the soup, hot dogs and vegetables,”This looks yummy Nolan” Amber said to him and he thanked her, we all ate and we had a great time for the first time, we all finally connected instead of constant planning and kidnapping, etc.

I was putting my stuff in our room, Dylan came in,”I was gonna go take a shower, wanna join?” He put his arms around me and kissed my cheek,”Are you sure about that?” He nodded,”Yeah, I’m sure the group can survive without our protection”
“Someone’s gotta be on watch”
“Ask one of them” I smiled,”Maybe later Dylan, not now” He sighed,”You’re a tease” I did my innocent smile and I was replacing the blankets with the ones we took, there was a knock on the door,”Come in” It was Paige,”Hey Blaire?” I looked over at her and I asked her if there was something else going on,”No, no it’s just that….nevermind forget it” She was about to walk out the door,”Are you sure Paige? I’m here for you” She sighed,”I was supposed to go to Berkeley, I had a scholarship....I had the perfect guy, I pretty much had everything I could ever have except a mother and a father in need”
“I know how you feel Paige” She nodded,”I wanted to become a Choreographer for Dancing with The Stars, it was my mother’s favorite show and I wanted to do it for her and I” She had a tear coming out, I hugged her,”Nyra didn’t care about us, she killed my parents when she took me away, we were trying to run away, she only killed them...she told me that parents don’t matter anymore, we’re all we have, what if she’s right?” I had my hands on her shoulders,”Nyra was sick in the head, she didn’t know what she was thinking, your parents managed to get you this far and you got yourself this far because of your parents, not her, she was only saying those things because her parents weren’t good people at all, that’s why Paige. Your parents got you to that scholarship, they took care of you up to that moment, if they didn’t matter, we wouldn’t even be alive”
“Nyra said that your parents died the day you went to an Internment Camp that you wanted to get back to, that’s also why she said that and when I heard your side, I knew I wanna to go with you, you and Dylan...are like Angels” I smiled and thanked her,”You feeling better now?”
“Just a tad” I nodded,”Good, it’s dark out, get Nolan and Daryl on watch tonight, they can choose whoever after Midnight, tell them I said that” She nodded and walked out
