Chapter Twenty-Six

Waiting to Exhale

Andrea POV
"Load up!" We had our bags in the truck and the supply bags in both trucks, Pete walked with 2 bags and I stopped him,"Wait that's Dylan's bag, how can you still have it?" He sighed,"He wanted me to hold onto it for some reason, but I'm still going to for his respect"
"What about....?" We looked at Blaire and he sighed,"When we get there, I'll hand it to her" I nodded knowing that Blaire wouldn't be able to concentrate with Dylan's stuff, so he has a good point and I'm sure that she'll understand why he did it,"Okay, Gwen, Taryn, you're with Pete in the supply truck, the children are in here again along with Miranda and Chloe, Jason you're passenger, Cayden you're with me, Finley...." I assigned everyone to which group they're going with, Blaire with me and we went into the trucks then drove off to finsh what we started. Blaire was in the back with the children with the others and I saw that Sarah was cheering up Blaire. I kept driving and we pulled into Morrobay, we went out to stretch our legs and Blaire was walking alone

Blaire POV
I know Dylan would've loved to see what I was seeing right now, aside from the destructive buildings and catastrophic areas, the ocean still looked nice, it was kinda a mellow day for us, it was cloudy with a light breeze, I looked out into the ocean wishing for a sign to keep going, no matter how much I say that we can keep going, we can make it, after everything that's happened, I can't believe in myself as much as I believe in them and I feel like I'm not going to make it in time because I can feel the anger and aggressiveness inside me building up and it's not just losing Dylan, it was something else and it was definitely growing more each day and I absolutely have no intention in telling the group it's growing more each day. I walked back to the group and I sat on the ground while the children were running around and Michelle sat next to me,"Hey, how's it going?"
"I really don't know anymore" She had her hand on top of mine as I looked over at her,"Don't lose hope Blaire"
"What makes you think that?"
"I know you, even if it's been years, but I still do" I nodded and looked down,"I'm just afraid, even more than ever"
"What do you mean?" I sighed hesistantly,"I'm afraid of myself, I'm afraid of what I could do to you guys any day, you've seen how Leo was, what if I can't control myself when I turn into that?" She rubbed my back,"Look, it's up to you if that happens, if you want us to do what's right, we can do it, even if it hurts like hell for us, but...you get what I'm trying to say here right?"
"Yeah"
"Leo changed when he didn't know, Dylan knew and he wanted you to do it, he wanted you to end his pain" She had a point and Emery walked over with a rock that looked like a heart,"Look mommy, look what I found"
"Yes I see that, aw it's a heart"
"It's for you" She handed it to her and she hugged her,"Get over here monkey, this is so sweet" They hugged and when they broke apart,"I'm gonna go look another one for mommy" I knew who she was referring to as she ran off looking around,"Kids huh?"
"Yeah, I can't believe that Leo and I made her, she's the gem that I want to protect now, she's everything that I could ever look for, she's my motivation, everything I do is for her, for her safety" I smiled when she was talking about her own daughter, it kinda gave me hope for the group,"She's lucky to have a mother like you"
"Thank you"
"10 more minutes!" Andrea said to all of us and we all nodded

Chloe POV
"Can't believe we got through 415" I said to Finley and he nodded,"Yeah and to think that...god I don't even know how to say it, I mean we..."
"You don't have to say it, I already know" We held hands as we were walking around and we stopped,"It's gonna be hell to go through Los Angeles, probably a lot worse than it was before" I said to him and he chuckled in amusement,"With the crew we have left, no doubt about it"
"Yeahh...but without Dylan, it's-it's weird now, both of them were able to lead a group with each other"
"So was Andrea and Dallas, they were able to lead the group and when we lost Dallas, we didn't know what to do" I asked him,"How did you get through it?" He shrugged and had his arm up for a second,"No idea, I guess we just kept moving and pushing through, like we are now. Maybe you will too, I don't think Andrea is over it"
"How can she be? That man was her husband, I heard that they were....like a power couple" He nodded,"Exactly, they protected Counterpart from top to bottom and each other, but it did get to the point that Dallas actually risked his life for her to go back to Sarah and Trey was on the way"
"Like Blaire and Dylan"
"Yeah, so Andrea is taking it easy on her and plus, she even told her that she can stay at the house that we were at for as long as she needs to and she said no" I nodded,"That does sound like Blaire"
"What? I don't understand" I didn't think I told him about what happened,"Years ago before we were caught into this separation/internment camp I wanna say, we had 2 kids with us, one turned 10 and the other was 15, their names were Marilyn and Fynn, we lost them in a house fire, Blaire was trying to go back into the house and get them out, but unfortunately, we lost them, Blaire wanted to go back and get them, but she was forced to leave them, I guess she thinks the right thing to do now is walk away, even if it was her fiance" He looked over at me instantly,"What? They-They're engaged?"
"They were, they figured that if they get back to The Organization, they could plan their wedding ceremony, that's all I know so far" He put his head in his hands and ran them through his hair,"God that-that's harsh, I mean I would be heartbroken if that happened to me"
"She's tough, she'll push herself like she is now"
