"Oh my gosh, these are delicious." I said after taking a bite of our chocolate chip waffles. "I suddenly don't mind all the chocolate."
He scoffed at me, "You did before?"
I glared at him and ignored his question, "Henrik, will you please put extra chocolate in my breakfast every morning?"
He nodded, his cheeks chubby from all the food stuffed in his mouth, "Anytime you want."
I smirked at him, still chewing my food as well.
I hated admitting this, but the more time I spent with him, the more I wanted to be around him. I dreaded the thought of him leaving, still not wanting this time we've had together to be over. Did he feel the way I felt? Did I have real feelings for Henrik? My mind was all over the place and I couldn't stand it. The effect this boy had on me, it was driving me crazy not being able to act out on it. There was something holding me back- I just wasn't sure if it was his girlfriend or my own denial.
"What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" Henrik said, his voice snapping me back to reality.
"Hm? Oh, just how good these are." I laughed softly and looked down at the waffles, a light blush tinging my cheeks. I took another bite before looking back up at him, "Is uh...- Lea waiting for you?"
His eyes shot up as he took a sip of his orange juice before shrugging. "I don't know, maybe." A smirk creeped up on his face, "Why? You don't want me to go?"
"Just wondering, geez- you flirt." I rolled my eyes at him, he was clearly enjoying this.
"If you think I'm being flirty now, just wait." He let out a laugh. I shot him a look, "I'm kidding."
- one hour later
"Alright Tar, I think I should head out." Henrik said and grabbed his clothes from yesterday.
"Oh, okay." I said innocently, trying not to sound too disappointed. "Well, I had fun."
He turned his attention to me, a smile now forming on his lips. "So did I. I hope we can do this again soon. You'll keep in touch though, right?"
My lips parted slightly as I opened the front door for him. "Yeah, 'course."
He nodded and raised his eyebrows at me. "Don't forget about me."
I scoffed and looked down, "How could I?"
Because was looking down, I couldn't see him step closer to me until I was pulled into his embrace. At first, I was taken aback and wasn't really sure what to do, but eventually I hugged back. I was sad at how short the hug was. When he pulled back, he patted me on the shoulder and flashed a smile, with me returning one.
"I'll um...- text you." I said, my voice monotonous.
"Looking forward to it." He winked, causing me to give him a weird look. It caught me off guard, but before I could react, he was already out the door.
- Sunday
I had a couple friends over, drinking beers and chatting when I got a text from my mom. I pulled out my phone from my shorts pocket, reading her message.
"Dinner tonight 7pm? Me and your father have a special restaurant in mind. Wear something nice. We'll come pick you up." - Mama
I hadn't seen my parents in awhile, maybe a couple weeks at most. It would be good to see them tonight. I responded, "Sounds good. See you then."
It wasn't long before 6:30 pm rolled around. I had just gotten out of the shower and opened my closet to look for something nice to wear. I pulled out a white button up dress shirt, black suit pants and a maroon and black striped necktie.
After the outfit was on my body, I was drying my hair with a blow drier whilst combing it. I tried my best to style it, but overall it was the curly mess it always was. Oh well- that's how I wore it all the time, it's not like they'd care.
When my mom called to say she and my dad were out front waiting for me, I grabbed my phone and wallet before heading out. I kissed my mom on the cheek and said hello to both of them with a grin, then we finally got in the car and headed to the restaurant.
The car ride was normal, they asked how I'd been, if I was working on any job stuff at the moment, any love interest, all those parental questions. I know I shouldn't have, but when they mentioned 'love interest', Henrik was the first (and only) person that came to mind. I told them no.
When we arrived, I was glad I dressed the way I had, because it was insanely nice. Even though I had gone to plenty of places like this before, I never got used to it. I couldn't believe people had a lifestyle like this- I couldn't believe I had a lifestyle like this.
Once we got our table, we chatted and caught up on the last couple weeks as we waited for our food to be served. I told them it was pretty boring for me and that I didn't do much, obviously not including the parts with Henrik. They were just always so skeptical and made so many assumptions, I didn't want them to think there was something going on between us, because there wasn't- was there?
In the middle of our conversation, the waitress served our food. I smiled at her, "Looks delicious. Thank you."
She smiled back and nodded in return. I turned my attention back to my parents who were shaking their heads.
"What?" I chuckled a bit and furrowed my eyebrows.
"How have you not gotten a girlfriend yet, Tarjei?" They asked, amusement clear in their tone.
What is that supposed to mean?
I shrugged, a little confused as to why they would ask that. "I just haven't found the right one."
My dad laughed at that. I decided to not comment on it- I didn't want to talk about relationships right now.
As if the world was taunting me, right when I thought that, I looked away and spotted the last person I thought would be here.
Lea.
She was sitting with someone, smiling, eating, looking disgustingly attractive in her nice, pretty dress. I stared at her, taken aback that she was here. Just my luck, right? What if she sees me? Doesn't she hate me or something?
Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, the person she was sitting dropped a fork on the ground. When they leaned down to grab it, there was no doubt about it. Henrik was the one she was sitting with, and they were on a date.
