I hang up with the officer and try to figure out what to do and how I can get to the crash site. I finally decide to text my sister's boyfriend/niece's dad Kane, who is abusive and isn't meant to be around me.

I bite the bullet and text him saying:

Hi, its Amelia, I know we aren't meant to talk etc but Sasha, Layla and my parents have been in a car crash. The officer in charge won't tell me anything over the phone and I was hoping you could get me and we could go to the scene of the crash to see what's going on etc.

He responds quickly and comes and gets me. We drive in silence and finally arrive. I run out of the car and see so many emergency vehicles I lose count. I left Kane when I got out of the car and I have no idea where he ended up but I didn't really care. I ask around and finally find Daniel,  I ask him what's wrong and if anyone is injured. He tells me I need to sit down before he tells me, I start to panic because no one ever tells you that before good news.

I sit down on the sidewalk nearest to where we were standing and he tells me: 'Im sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but everyone involved in the crash in both vehicles have passed away except one'. I can't believe what he's saying I break down in hysterics, then I remember that he said there was one survivor. ' Who survived?' I question abruptly, he replied quietly but still loud enough that I can hear him ' Your niece, she got away without a scratch the car seat she was in protected her and your sister's arm was over the top of her so we think that might of softened the effects on her.' I'm was now even more shocked than before I just lost three of the most important people in my life but somehow Layla survived! I ask if I can see her, and he tells me to wait for a second and walks away and comes back holding a crying Layla. I rush up to her and embrace her into a hug. After I held her for a few seconds she stops crying and Daniel is shocked because ever since they arrived at the scene of the crash she hasn't stopped crying till then.

Kane sees us and rushes over and officer Daniels explains exactly what he said to me to him.  He starts to cry a little but not as much as you think after just losing his girlfriend etc and I can see it started to make officer Daniels uncomfortable. To help make it a little less uncomfortable I ask if Kane wants to hold Layla as unfortunately, they are related. He nods, I pass the now quiet and soothed baby over to him and as soon as she is in his arms she starts to cry again. No matter how hard he tries he can't get her to stop crying so he gives her back to me and once again she is quite.

Officer Daniels breaks the newly found silence by asking who will be looking after Layla, Kane and I both reply quickly and in unison ME!
