I get off the bus and start walking up the steep hill that takes me to dance, I push the pram to the top of the stairs when I come to the realization that I had a huge flight of stairs to go down before I reach the access ramp to the lift. I tilt the pram and slowly start bumping down the stairs stopping after every few, Layla was not a big fan of the stairs but thankfully she didn't scream or cry. Once we have successfully gone down the stairs we walk the short distance to the lift and wait for it to get to the top, we get in the lift and I brace myself for all of the whispers and stares that I know are coming my way.

I push Layla over to the door and struggle opening it as I try to get the pram through, I eventually get in and walk over to my normal spot in the room where I leave all of my stuff. My best friend that I dance with looks at me with confusion, I just tell her I'll explain in a minute. I grab  Layla out and walk own to the front of the room where my teacher is talking with the teacher from the lesson prior to mine, I wait for a few minutes before they finish there conversation and finally turn to me so we can talk. I explain the situation to my teacher and my 2 old teachers who knew my parents and sister well listen and they all start to tear up. Once I have explained it, I tell them how I really want to finish this year even though I have lost interest in, but I want to do it since my parents always told me even if Im not having fun, I made the commitment and I have to see it to the end. I also had paid for the whole year and costumes so I wasn't going to not go.  I also say how im going to look after Layla and dance at the same time, I have come up with a few options such as;

1) Anyone can watch her like my teachers, friends or the parents

2) I can hold her and do it one-handed or put her in her carrier and try my best

3) I can sit her in the pram

4) she can sit on the floor and play

5) Or I can sit and watch if I need to

They agree and say if I ever need help not just at dance but at home etc, they will always be there and always willing to hold Layla while I dance since they adore her. My main teacher askes if I want to tell the class, I nod my head in agreement. She calls out to everyone and asks everyone to come to the front of the room, they all groan and walk to the front I think thinking she was going to make us stretch/condition. This is what I say:

"Hi, as some of you might know this is Layla, and she's my niece. My sister, Layla and parents were in a major car crash on Friday and-  (I start to tear up and notice a few of my friends that I dance with starting to look worried) they all passed away either on the impact of the crash or within minutes of the Paramedics arriving. So to put it shortly I am now an Orphan but I also have adopted Layla and live at home by myself looking after everything all on my own". I get lots of looks of sympathy, " But so far im doing okay and just trying to make it work".
