The Lost Touch
"Heroooooooo... For God's own sake please wake up!!!!" I said nudging him for the hundredth time by now. "I can not go without you, you know that right?" I said finally catching my breath. The bags are set, I am ready to go while Hero is not ready to leave the bed. "You know....." He mumbled something incoherent. "Hero" I stood up. If we don't leave in next 10minutes, we will be sure shot late. Then this idea popped up in my brilliant head. I bend low on him, and started running my fingers on his bare back. Moving my fingers along his lower back, then playing with the front of his waistband. I saw his eyes flutter, and then I dipped my hand in his pants. His eyes shot open and he turned towards me. "What the hell are you doing?" He stood up from the bed as I moved away. "Waking you up" I said biting the inside of my cheek to stop my laugh. "You are lucky that we have to go or this won't have gone too well" he said pulling my nose before heading to the washroom.
Finally we moved out of my apartment. Anna hugged me at least five times. "You have no idea, how happy I am for you" she said before getting interrupted by Hero. "I am not taking her to the church. You need to keep your nerves calm" He said earning an eye roll from Anna.
"I have told all my friends about you, and they are excited to meet you" he said when we pulled out.
"Me too" I nodded. Am I excited? A little. Am I nervous? Hell lot !!
"I will have coffee, do you want something?" He asked once we made it through the security check and settled in the waiting area. "No. I am good" I said. "I will be back in a minute" Hero said kissing my forehead before walking away. My stomach fluttered with his sweet gesture and I couldn't keep myself away from grinning. I looked around and found a lady smiling at me, maybe she saw our PDA. I was just surfing through the phone when I got a text from my cousin in India, Ruhi. I was typing my reply, when she called up.
"Hi Vani Di. Kaisi ho aap?" Ruhi asked me and then I realized I am hearing her voice after a very long time. Maybe a year or two.
(Di is used to address elder sister in India.
Translation- Hi sister. How are you?)
"Mein theek hu. Tum batao, sab badiya?" I asked as Hero sat beside me.
(Translation- I am fine. What about you?)
"Bus theek hi hai Di. Aap ki yaad aati hai aur yeh message kar ke mann nahi manta, toh socha aaj phone laga lu" Ruhi continued.
(Translation- We are doing just okay. I miss you and this texting doesn't satisfy me anymore, so I thought I should call you)
"Yeh accha kiya tumne. Infact tumhe kabhi bhi call karne ke liye sochne ki zaroorat nahi. Jab mann karey, kar lo" I said reading Hero's expression, hearing my native language. He was busy Making faces as usual.
(Translation- It is very nice of you. Infact you should not think much before calling me. You can, whenever you feel like)
"Aur aap? Aapka mann nahi karta humse baat karne ka? Di waha janey ke baad, aap ek baar bhi humsey milne nahi aayi" Ruhi said in a dejected tone.
(Translation- And you? Don't you feel like speaking to us? You have not come back, even for once to meet us.)
Ruhi is not wrong. I did not go back to India even for once, after leaving. Not that, I didn't want to, but something or the other came up to keep me busy here. And honestly, I did not try to make any effort to connect my extended family there.
"I know yarrr. But yaha pe itna kaam rehta hai and all. I just couldn't make my mind" I said taking a sip from Hero's coffee.
(Translation- I know dear. But I was so busy with my work here that I couldn't make my mind)
"Koshish karo aur ek baar aa jao. Maa ko bhi milna hai. Please bus ek baar. Please Di. Promise me that you will try" she said earnestly.
(Translation- Please try once and come to meet us. Even Mother wants to see you. Please just once. Please sister.)
"Okay. I will try. I promise" I said to which she chuckled gladly. After exchanging another round of pleasantries, we finally hung up. "Was that Hindi?" Hero asked curiously and I nodded. "It is not easy to understand. I couldn't even guess a single meaning" he said downing his coffee. "Do you want to learn?" I asked eyeing him. "Huhh !! No chance." He said as we walked to board our flight.
"So when will you go back to India?" He asked as we settled in our seats. "I don't know. Not anytime soon I guess" I said unsure. "And why not?" He asked as the air hostess instructed. "I don't know. I'm just pondering on the thought. I know I sound mean but I am not yet ready to go down on the memory lane" I sighed. "I understand" Hero said taking my hand between his. "Will you go with me?" I asked without thinking. "Yeah. Maybe. I mean I have never been to Asia" Hero said giving me a surprised look. "Same way I have never been to London" I said resting my head back. "Well. No doubt we are each other's first" he smirked. "Yes we are" I said as my eyes met his and I think, both of us knew how much more the words meant.
