Jordan-
I can't help it, I blurt out her name before I can tell myself not to "Mara?!"
She gasps and pulls away from the guy.. Who looks annoyed at being interrupted..
"Ohh um Jord.. Hey" Mara stutters, avoiding my eye. It doesn't matter because I'm too busy glaring at the dropkick she was about to make out with.
Brenton Clive, he made my last three years of primary school a living hell. I hadn't seen him since I started Homeschooling, and I had been hoping to keep it that way. No such luck.
"Well well well, would you look at what washed up on the beach." Clive smirks and his eyes narrow, this makes him look even more intimidating..
In all honesty, I'm petrified of him
"Clive" I say evenly, thankfully my voice doesn't catch.
"Jansen" He replies in the same tone.
Mara chooses this moment to jump in, "Wait hold the phone, you two know each other??"
"Oh yeah baby girl, me and Jordy go way back." Brenton wraps an arm around her and pulls her closer to his side.
Baby girl!?! It's taking everything in me to not punch him in the face right now.
"Aw you were friends?" Mara is completely clueless right now and its annoying.
She needs to know what he's capable of.. "Mara can I talk to you please?" I ask, using my eyes to stress how urgent it is.
"Right now?" She looks at Brenton and sighs, "Okay make it quick. I'll be right back"
I lead her out of hearing distance and start spilling.
"Listen, Brenton used to bully me when I was at school. He made my life miserable and other peoples too. I can't stand by and watch him suck you in"
Mara considers this for a moment and then shakes her head. "Jordan, I appreciate you trying to look out for me but I am a big girl and can take care of myself. That stuff happened a long time ago, I'm sure he's changed."
This isn't working..
"Please Mara, for your own safety. I can see when he looks at you, its like he's undressing you with his eyes. Its creepy and wrong and I don't want you to get hurt."
Please. I don't know how to prove it to her..
"How old did he say he was?" I ask her
"Seventeen. Why?" She's getting annoyed at me.
"He's eighteen Mara. See he lied to you, he's not the nice guy you think he is." The slime ball didn't even tell her his real age.
Mara-
No this can't be happening. Jordan is trying to convince me to not see Brenton again.
I'm finished wasting time, I'm on a date here.
"Whatever Jordan, grow up. Age is just a number and at least he doesn't tell tales about other people to make them look bad!" I spit out.
"You think I'm lying? It's nothing but the truth. I promise" Jordan tells me. I can see tears of frustration slowly forming in his eyes and I start to crack. NO, hold your ground Mara.
"Enough, I'm leaving. Call me when you've woken up to yourself." I turn on my heel and run away from him, back into Brenton's arms.
Together we spin around and walk out of the park and away from Jordan.
