CHAPTER 24: Situations like these

He took a step in as the door opened. Dressed in an expensive looking suit, he began to walk toward us. His steps graceful and his body language showed the sign of confidence; he carried an aura along with himself, an aura of power and strength.

I looked at Ryan from the corner of my eyes and found him surprised and angry at the same time. His hatred for him was seen clearly in his eyes. He gulped in before saying, “What are you doing here?”

He looked at Ryan and was clearly annoyed by his harsh tone. He spoke, “Is that the way to talk to your father, son?”
“I will talk to you with etiquettes when you’ll learn yours.” Ryan said, looking straight in the eyes of his father.
“Ryan!” Annabella yelled. She knew it wasn’t nice of him to speak like that with his father.

Mr Matthews  walked near the couch and spoke, looking at his daughter,” At least your mother raised this one better. You on the other hand, are a ball of mess, Ryan. When will you learn these small yet important things?”
“Just like I said before,” Ryan paused. He turned to his father and looked him intensely and continued, “I will when you will do it as well.”

Mr Matthews was about to reply to his son’s remark but then his eyes went over to me, while I was standing closely behind Ryan.
He smiled and spoke, “Oh, Jade.”

I stepped aside and spoke with a small voice, “Hello Mr Matthews.”
“How are you dear? Long time, how’s your father?” he asked, much more interested in this conversation than anyone else in the room.
“Everyone’s fine.” I replied, quickly looking away from him and to Anna. I didn’t know why but after I knew everything about him, he suddenly began to look much more intimating and manipulating.

He Unbuttoned his blazer and spoke in a casual voice, “Well, then we shouldn’t be discussing these things when we have such a lovely guest’s visit.”
“She’s not a guest here, you are.” Ryan snapped out. I looked at him but he didn’t return the action.

Mr Matthews’ eyes twitched, he tried to compose himself.

“Where’s your mother?” he asked.
“None of your business.” Ryan replied nonchalantly.

Mr Matthews seemed to lose his patience and yelled, “Just shut up. Ryan. You’ve said enough.”
“And you’ve done enough so just leave now.” Ryan snapped out. I was shocked to see the way he talked with his father but then again, he had his own reasons. The hatred he had for his father was so intense that he didn’t even like to think about him so barring his arguments must have been torturous.

I saw the reason behind it as well. Mr Matthews was a strange man, he didn’t care about his own children. So full of himself and his power.

Mr Matthews jaw clenched with anger, he took another step closer to Ryan and was standing right in front of him now. I watched the whole scene with horror, anticipation what would happen next.

“Jade.” Anna whispered in my ear. I turned to her and saw a terrified look on her face. Watching your father behaving so badly in front of you must’ve been very hard.

“Please leave.” she said slowly, looking at the two angry men in the room to indicate me the reason why she said that.

I nodded my head with a small smile and spoke out loud, “I’ll take a leave now.”
Mr Matthews turned to me, his expression changing a bit, “Why? Stay for a while.”
“No, I better leave as my dad must be worried about me.” I replied awkwardly. I looked at Ryan from the corner of my eye. He looked away from his father and to me; therefore I looked away from him as well.
