Not a very eventful chapter but I hope you'll like it! :)
CHAPTER 15. Escape
Awkwardness filled the room. The three of us were eating, the only sound produced was coming from the spoons touching the plates.
Granny went back to her kitchen a few minutes ago as according to her, I didn’t have anything in my kitchen to prepare a nutritious meal. She then made some delicious food and served it to me, Ryan and herself. But my throat was disturbing the silent brunch.
“The food’s delicious Gran.” I complimented, taking a small bite. I would be happy to eat more but I just completed my breakfast made by Dillan, I was full already. But who can refuse the food of such an adorable lady?
“But you aren’t even eating anything Cookie.” she pointed out.
“I am.” I said, taking a full spoon. I carried it from the plate to in front of my mouth but didn’t want to eat it as my already full stomach couldn’t even dare to take in a single more particle of food. I gulfed in and looked Gran, who was smiling hopefully at me. I then looked at the silent boy who kept himself busy with the food. I could still see the crease on his forehead as he was still thinking hard about what happened a few minutes ago.
“He’s not eating.” I said to Gran in a singing manner.
Ryan’s head shifted swiftly from his food to my direction. “I’m eating.”
“Oh dear, she’s right. You aren’t, Ryan.” Gran pointed out.
“I’m eating properly, look.” he said and shove a full spoon in his mouth, creating a mess like a kid.
“Good boy.” I teased, grinning.
He glanced at me warningly and I went back to taking small bites.“Okay Cookie, now I’ll leave you alone to rest” she spoke with a smile.”And Ryan, you stay here and look after the sick girl.”
That made a huge smile to appear on my face. What an excellent time to annoy Ryan.
“What? Why me?” he spoke in a high pitched voice, shrugging his shoulder.
“Then who? There’s a women’s meeting at Mrs Ford’s house today and she begged me to home, I can’t see no. I want to look after Cookie myself but I have no choice left. So it’s my order that you’ll look after her for me.” she scolded, pointing her finger at him.
I sat and enjoyed the scene in front of me.Gran turned to me and smiled,”Cookie, sorry that I have to leave you like this.”
“It’s alright Gran. Go have some fun and Ryan’s here to take care for me right Ryan?” I spoke, pressuring of ‘care’.
“Fine.” he groaned and went to the kitchen to place his plate in the sink.
“Have fun annoying him Cookie.” Granny sang and after giving me a kiss on the forehead, she went outside. I chuckled and got up as well with my plate.Ryan came outside the kitchen and said, “Let me take this.”
“No, I’ll do it.” I announced, keeping the plate away from him.
“:Jade, don’t be stubborn.”
“Ah, look who’s talking.” I snorted. Ryan stopped for a second, a small smile appeared on his face but he covered it up quickly and spoke,”Come on, go rest, I’ll keep it.”
“I’ll do it Ryan.” I sang. It was clear that he would get irritated soon and that would be very entertaining for me.
“Jade.” he warned.
“Ryan.” I mocked.
“Jade.”
“Ryan.”
“Jade.” This time, he spoke on a higher volume, making me flinch a little.
Ryan’s expression soften by my reaction and he took a step closer toward me.
“Fine, take this but don’t you dare scream on me, you moron.” I yelled and ran to my room.It may seem like I was angry at him but the actual truth was, I was laughing hysterically in my room after watching Ryan’s sudden changes of mood. One moment, he would be angry and the other, he would get all emotional.
