Battle Fences

Gemma

I walked home and snuck in and laid down on the couch (AKA my bed).  Staring at the ceiling wondering what was wrong with me. A phantom!  I was raised to hate them... now I think I'm falling in love with one.  After just a day,  not even an entire day.

   What was wrong with me?

But then this guy wasn't like the others.  He was different.  Like me.  We both don't want what our father's want us to do. He was just... different.

   "Gemma, wake up.  I need my breakfast. " I fell asleep without even knowing. 

I got up, changed and made breakfast.  Three scrambled eggs four prices of fruit and water. My dad had most of it while I had very little.

" Someone was out very late last night.  Where were you?" He said.

"Oh you know I just got caught up with Mary and Kida." I had to lie.

"Oh I see, girl talk.  Well I had bread for dinner last night cause you weren't home. And I skipped all my herbs."

"I get it dad I get it. I'll try to stay and help."

    Oh how my father loved piling on the guilt.  That's how he made sure I would give him everything he needed.  Until he married me off then he would stop everything and die. He told me this himself.

  "Gemma come on!" Kida screamed from outside the window.

"Where you guys going today?"

"Just a long walk.  I should be back for dinner.  Lunch is in the cupboard and herbs are laid out. Bye dad."

"Bye Gemma.  Have fun. "

   I practically ran out of the house to join up with Mary and Kida outside.     

"Okay so what was the real reason you were out so late?" Mary asked

"Well... I sorta... met... someone. " I answered. 

"YOU WHAT!?" They both said at the same time. 

"It's no big deal."

"Uh I think it is a big deal." Kida said

   "Then I won't say anything else. "

" You're not off the hook that easily. "

I told them all that happened that day. They had the same look that Isaac had when I told him about my father.      

" And I'm meeting him again tonight.  I hope. "

" Of course you will! They have night shooting tonight." Kida said.
