Battle Fences

Isaac

     One minute we were talking and the next I'm waking up with the sun and Gemma is asleep on the other side of the fence. I'm guessing we both fell asleep at the same time.  The fire was out and all I could see was Gemma. 

     She was so beautiful, even when she was sleeping.  I just wanted to savor the moment but then I remembered that her father would be worried sick if she wasn't home in time for breakfast.  I just had to wake her up.  It killed me on the inside. 

     " Hey Gemma... Gemma... wakeup or your dad will kill us both."

" I'm up, I'm up." She said.

"I guess we lost track of time.  The sun's almost all the way up."

"Shit I gotta go.  I'm sorry it's just my dad.  See you again?"

" Yeah sure thing.  But not tonight I have plans with my family. "

     " Okay then... uh... Sunrise? "

" Yeah sunrise."

" Bye Isaac. "

Just like that she was gone again.  I heard the siren from camp. The signal to come back.  I let a round off and then I went back. 

     I snuck back to camp and put my rifle back in the stock room. 

"Isaac! " Benny shouted.

"Hey Benny. "

" Did you tell her about Mallory?"

" No. I just...this is gonna sound cheesy but... I got lost in her eyes. I didn't want to tell her."

     " So what did you tell her when she asked to see you again? "

" I told her I have plans with my family. Which I do. So it wasn't all a lie."

" So you're not seeing her tonight? "

" No I'm seeing her at sunrise. "

" You are gonna be one tired man. Training, date, and Gemma."

     " I know.  But I can do it.  I'll find a way. I always do."
