Kaito was super excited coming to Danganronpa city for the first time. Growing up in a small town, he always wanted to go somewhere where he could make a name for himself, make a difference, and save lives.

Dear Kaito,
Congratulations on your transfer to becoming an official investigator at the Danganronpa police department. I hope now that your dream is a reality, it is everything you wished it to be. Both of us are very proud of you. Even though we are worried about how dangerous your job may be, we are happy that you are doing what you love.
Love you to the stars and back,
Grandma and grandpa.

"Geez," Kaito said, trying not to tear up on the subway. His grandparents have shoved the letter into the pocket of his new police uniform. He didn't discover it until he was wearing the uniform to his first day at work.

"Alright! I'm going to do my best! By the end of the year, I'll be the greatest officer in the city!"

While on the train, Kaito noticed a person who stood in the subway. They had curly black hair and bright purple eyes. He was short and skinny and holding a Panta. Where in the world is this kid's parents? He wondered.

What was weird was that the kid seemed to stare at him too. He finally decided to speak to him.

"Hey, kid," Kaito said, giving his best friendly cop smiles, "Did you accidentally get separated from your parents?"

"No waaaay!" The kid said, his purple eyes glistening, "how did you know? Did you deduce it like a detective~?"

"Haha..."

The boy was really cute. The way how he looked so excited and enthusiastic about cops made reminded Kaito about himself. His hair looked so fluffy...

"What's your name?"

"Kokichi Ouma," he replied, " what about you, Mr. police officer?"

"Kaito Mamota," Kaito said, "Why don't I help you find your parents?"

Kaito leads the kid to the help desk at the next station. During the entire time, Kokichi kept asking questions faster than he could answer them.

"Hey, Mamota-Chan, since you're a cop, you have a gun, right? Can I hold it? I won't shoot anything!"

"No, and why are you calling me Mamota-Chan???"

"When you solve cases, do you, like, interrogate witnesses in one of those rooms with a huge mirror that is actually a window?"

"Yeah, probably."

"Probably? Are even paying attention, Mr. Cop?"

The kid's questions made Kaito a bit dizzy. It was hard to respond to everything the hyper kid was saying.

Finally, they made it to an info desk. Kokichi smiles cheekily at Kaito.

"So long, Detective Kaito. You're going to be late for work."

Kaito smiled and rubbed Kokichi's head. "Don't worry. The reception lady will help you find your parents."

Kokichi grinned and handed Kaito his soda, "This is to thank you for your help."

Kaito took it. "Thanks! I was thirsty!" He really seemed like a nice kid.

Kaito got back on the metro, feeling good about helping the kid. He was surely going to be late on his first day now, but he had no regrets. He really did feel thirsty, so he decided to take a sip of the soda.

POP! The moment Kaito opened the can, soda spewed all over his brand new uniform.

"That kid..." Kaito said, frustrated. Was he just pranked? Now he had to go to the police station both late and drenched in soda. Just his luck.
