I know you lie

Kokichi shook as he turned back the animator with a new rage. "Who were these robbers! Tell me what you know! What did they steal?"

Ryota crumpled onto the ground, shivering.

"Kokichi! Yelling at our witness is not gentlemanly behavior!"

"SHUT THE HELL UP, YOU IDIOT!" Kokichi yelled before he could control himself. Gonta backed off in shock.

"I-I I don't know!" Ryota sobbed, "I don't know..."

"That symbol seared into the table is a very secret symbol of a gang responsible for hundreds of deaths. If you do not tell me how this symbol turned up in your shop, I'll assume you are in affiliation with them," Kokichi threatened.

"T-There was this blonde woman who came to my studio who was interested in my projects. She had decorations in her hair with the same symbol. But..."

"Spill it out already!"

"That was five years ago! There is no way there is a connection--"

At that exact moment, Gonta's walkie-talkie rang. Gonta picked it up, and slowly his face became pale. He looked up at Kokichi in panic.

"There is an emergency. We are needed back at the precinct."

...

The entire precinct was there.

Kokichi couldn't hear any words after the word murdered. His intuition as a cop told him it couldn't be a coincidence. After he told Kaede, she mysteriously turns up dead. However the spy was operating, Kokichi had underestimated their powers.

It's all your fault. You couldn't handle the truth yourself, a voice whispered to Kokichi, and now Kaede is dead.

It's your fault. It's your fault. It's your fault.

"Kokichi! Are you alright?" Gonta asked. Kokichi realized that he was visibly shaking all over. No, Kokichi thought, he can't look so affected. He needed to act as a ruthless liar. No one else can know about his plan anymore. No one else can get involved.

"AHAHAHAHA! Of course, I'm alright!" Kokichi said, painting a terrible smile on his face.

"Are you sure?" Himiko asked, "Don't lie. Kaede was nice to you. Of course you feel bad."

"...Yes. Now that she's gone, who will be kind to me?" Kokichi let crocodile tears flow down his face for a brief second.

"Oh... Kokichi..."

"Hehe, you believed that?" Kokichi wiped the tears off his face instantly, "So she died, big deal. What kind of captain gets murdered in her own precinct's file-office?"

"How can you be so insincere!" Himiko yelled.

"Kokichi should be more polite to the dead!" Gonta reprimanded him.

Kokichi looked over at Kaito, who was watching him silently. That was odd. "What, you aren't going to say something?"

Kaito shook his head. "...I know you are a liar."

"Of course. It's the best thing about me," Kokichi gave him a smirk.

"...but I also know that Kaede really cared about you."

For a brief moment, a flash of shock passed through Kokichi's eyes. Kaito, staring at Kokichi's face intently, caught the hesitation. 

"...Did you become dumber today?" Kokichi managed to say, "What do Kaede's feelings have to do with this? She's dead anyway."

"Stop lying!" Kaito exploded. He was holding back today because of Kaede's murder, but he couldn't stand it anymore, "You're doing that face when you know something, but you don't want to say it."

Kokichi turned around and walked away, his heart pounding. If he was such a good liar, so how could a simple idiot unmask his intentions so easily?
