Kaito arrived at the police station that day pissed.

After a night of confusion and sleeping, he woke up the next day with an epiphanic realization: Kokichi didn't tell him anything about his secret investigation!

After that, he went to Kokichi's front door, waiting for thirty minutes before realizing that he had left for work early without him.

That little brat... And to think after yesterday, he thought Kokichi was actually a good person. What was the purpose of going to the haunted house? Two people going into a haunted house together by themselves... He still didn't understand what the liar is thinking.

Kaito strode toward Kokichi when he arrived at work, ready to yell at him. Kokichi turned and gave a calm smile. That poker face attitude he had made Kaito angrier.

"Good morning, Detective Momota. You look lively."

"Lively enough to punch you in the face! Why didn't you tell me you already left home?"

"Aren't you being presumptuous? I never told you I would always come to work with you."

"ARGH! That's not the point. You lead me on a wild goose chase and didn't tell me anything-"

"Shh!" Kokichi's voice suddenly lost all joking manners and became serious. His eyes quickly darted around the police station to see if anyone was listening.

"That is top secret information," Kokichi said, "be careful what you say."

"Oh- sorry."

"...I don't fully trust you yet. If there is anything necessary for you to know, I'll tell you. Give me time."

"..." Kaito crossed his arms. "Fine. I'll make you spit it out eventually."

"Nehehe, should you really be that worried about me? You have a new case Kaede assigned you to."

"What case?"

"A strange looking person has been spotted suspiciously stalking girls around the city. The number of reports about this specific individual has become a huge concern. You'll be working with Tenko and Yumeno."

...

Kaede paced around the office, thinking about what Kokichi had told her. A mole in the police department? It was terrifying to think about it.

Calm down. You need to get yourself together, Kaede told herself. Everyone expected her to be the leader. She needed to keep everyone safe. She needed to find the traitor... at all costs.

"Captain, you called for me?"

Kaede straightened her face, erasing the frown from her eyebrows. Kokichi was the best liar, but she was just a proficient.

"Come in!"

Shuichi walked in and closed the door, looking at Kaede nervously. "What I do anything wrong?"

Kaede laughed. "No, you did not do anything wrong. I have some favors to ask."

"Oh... What is it?"

"I have been ordered to have someone go through all of the precinct's case files to see if there are any errors. We need to make sure every case every officer was involved in is correctly recorded."

"I have to sort through the entire records room?"

"Yep! Don't worry. To make it easier, I'll do it with you. Oh, and Shuichi?"

"Yes, Captain?"

"Don't tell anyone else about this. When officers learn that their superiors are scrutinizing their paperwork, they tend to get a bit defensive."

Since Shuichi was a new recruit, he couldn't possible the spy, Kaede thought. Since Kokichi trusted her with his secret, she'll do her part. If one of them was a mole, they should be able to tell if any of them are suspicious by looking through their activities. It was possible that none of the detectives are spies at all, if so, at least her efforts would put Kokichi at ease.

...

The mole watched as the police captain and newbie detective walked into the records room. What could be so important about a routine records check that the captain herself was participating? Too suspicious.

The traitor was on the move.

This is not part of the story

Hello. I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to read this. This is the first time I wrote fanfic and continued writing it for so long, and it was all because of all the encouragement from yall. Watching this story gain view has been both scary and rewarding at the same time. I have some stuff planned about this story in my head, but sometimes I struggle with finding good ideas for the next chapter. I'll try to update at least once a week, but that might change.
