A roomful of boxes and papers, one desk, and two chairs. Kaede and Shuichi had been on their special project for two days now. They both sifted through the filing room efficiently and quietly. Before they realized, the sky had gone dark.
"Good work today, Shuichi," Kaede said, "You go ahead and leave. I'll keep looking."
"Are you sure, captain? I can stay and help more..."
"It's fine! You don't need to stay overtime for this."
Kaede examined the files named Team Danganronpa. There was not much known about the group. They seemed very mysterious and not well known. They seemed to claim to follow the footsteps of Junko Enoshima, a terrifying crimelord that was apprehended by the current Chief of Police, Kyoko Kirigiri and Makoto Naegi. Mostly they copied her insane practices of torturing victims and her famous teddy bear logo.
They seemed adamant to "spread despair throughout the city". Kaede shook her head in disgust. Who would kill people for such a senseless reason?
One name caught Kaede's attention that kept coming up in documents of the mysterious organization. A very special agent who worked closely with the inner circle of the group, who was often referred to as The Cosplayer.
They seemed to have the ability to disguise themselves as any person and impersonate them to near perfection; a terrifying skill. The Cosplayer stopped being active five years ago. If there was a spy sent to into the Danganronpa PD, they would be the perfect candidate.
This is horrifying, Kaede thought to herself, I must share this information with Kokichi!
Just then, Kaede sensed standing behind her. Her experience on the police force kicked in as she swiftly dodged. She sprang upwards and delivered a spinning kick, knocking them out cold.
Kaede examined the attacker. It was a man wearing all black and a monokuma mask. How in the world did they get in here? Kokichi's speculations of a mole seemed to be right on the money.
"Who are you?" Kaede demanded, reaching for to tear off the attacker's disguise.
Before Kaede could uncover the attacker's face, someone pulled a wire across her neck. Kaede struggled to breathe as her strangler continued to tighten their grip.
"Hey, Captain Kaede." Kaede's blood ran cold as she recognized the voice. It was someone she had worked for years. She turned to see the face of a girl with ocean blue hair and glasses. "Surprised to see me?"
Tsumugi. No, rather, The Cosplayer.
"I'll let you live a little longer if you tell me how you discovered my identity," the spy said, "do we have an agreement?"
Kaede gulped and nodded.
"Haha...alright, Captain, speak up now."
The moment the wire around her neck loosened, Kaede grabbed the traitor's arm and flung her onto the ground.
"I WILL NEVER LET YOU HURT ONE OF MY DETECTIVES! EVER!"
"...You're hilarious, Kaede."
"What?"
Tsumugi turned her head and flashed Kaede a smirk that made her blood race. "You care so much about your team, yet you do not understand your men at all. I was undercover here for five years, and yet you don't know anything about me. Love is sure blind~ Do you want to know who else in the precinct you didn't truly know?"
Kaede was so caught off guard by Tsumugi she didn't realize the other attack had stood up. The man removed his mask and revealed a face Kaede never expected to see.
"Rantaro?"
Tears started swelling in her eyes against her will. "Why? I thought you were doing this for us..."
Kaede never found out; at that moment, Tsumugi swung a mallet at her head.
...
Tsumugi cackled as Kaede crumbled onto the floor.
"Can I take off this disguise now?"
"Geez, so eager to remove my handiwork?" Tsumugi said, "Go ahead."
The man removed the second mask on his face, which was completely unnoticeable, a perfectly seamless disguise created by the cosplayer.
"Why are you laughing so much?"
"She died thinking her friend was a traitor... how dramatic and despairful. Junko is going to be so proud of me..."
The man who was disguised as Rantaro was a rather petite man with purplish hair. He had a set of eyes, one violet, one golden. He surveyed the precinct with a blank poker face hiding all emotion, the face only a perfect liar would have.
"It's a shame that even though I'm here, I can't say hello to my brother... but again, another dead loved one is not a good greeting present."
