another Jily, because why not?
Lily loved lights. They shone brightly in the darkness, and their colours were always so pretty.
When she was a child, her and petunia would always build pillow forts and hang fairy lights on top, so they glowed magically through the blanket-ceiling. They would laugh and tell stories and exchange jokes. They were the best of friends, they were simply inseparable.
But when Lily met Severus, it all changed. Lily would beg her sister to build a pillow fort with her, but Petunia wanted nothing to do with Lily anymore. So, disheartened, Lily would build them with one of her parents, and if they weren't able to be there, she'd spend hours lying in her pillow fort alone, sobbing and wishing that her and Petunia could just go back to being friends.
When Lily arrived at Hogwarts, the castle was a magnificent sight to behold. Many of the windows appeared yellow, because the lights were on. When the group of first years shuffled into the great hall nervously, they saw that the hall was decorated with hundreds of burning candles, that gave a dim, comforting lighting.
Lily remembered the way sunlight would stream through windows into the classrooms. She remembered the way the Gryffindor common room fire lit up the cozy room, the golden embers burning bright even when the fire was put out.
And the first Christmas she stayed at Hogwarts... Glittering baubles, gleaming tinsel and colourful fairy lights decorated the twelve vast trees placed in the great hall. Lily was reminded of when she used to make pillow forts with Petunia, how they would stay up late, watching classic christmas movies and giggling at comments the other made.
With her heart aching, she put her quill to parchment and sent Petunia a long, hearty letter, wishing her a merry christmas and happy new year. She also sent a card for her parents, and her beautifully wrapped christmas presents, also for the celebrated holiday.
That christmas, Lily felt as if she had lifted a great weight off her chest; she had told Petunia many things she'd wanted to say since they grew apart. Although her older sister did not respond to her heartfelt message, Lily was happy, she enjoyed her christmas with her friends and ate delicious food with everyone that remained.
Then, in class, they learnt many things about magic. Defense against the dark arts allowed Lily to view the many lights that came from spells they learnt, the fluorescent colours shooting out of the wooden sticks witches and wizards alike held as their weapon.
In potions, the bubbling liquids in cauldrons often gave different colours, scents and, sometimes even lights. The fire cackling underneath the cauldrons kept the dungeon classrooms warm and toasty, also emitting dim light, which illuminated the room.
And then there were the so called 'Marauders', always giving a light show of hexes when someone simply got in their way, or annoyed them.
James Potter with his Levicorpus spell. James Potter with his shining golden snitch, stolen from the quidditch cupboard, and used to show off his amazing seeker skills. James Potter with his circular glasses that flashed in the sunlight. James Potter and his gleaming hazel eyes, always twinkling with mischief.
James Potter. At some point, the name had not become somewhat of a cuss word, but the name of a handsome, matured, seventeen-year-old boy. Well, he could be classified as a man, now. At some point, he had stopped hexing first years, and asking Lily out every waking moment. At some point, a boy had become a man.
And that man, had finally caught Lily Evan's eye. Her eyes, green as emeralds, no longer rolled upwards at the sight of him, but rather looked up at his handsome features with love. He brought forward the light hidden within the ever growing darkness of the community.
