"Myrcella! Wait up." Alec jogged after the girl, stopping her in her tracks.
"Yes?" She turned to face him with a sly smirk on her lips.
"What's going on? You know you can trust me right?" The Lightwood boy sincerely asked her, lightly grabbing her arm. Myrcella looked down to where he was touching and gave a small smile.
"It's not a matter of trust Alec. You wouldn't understand." Myrcella replied with a sigh and looked down. She wanted to tell him about Valentine but she guessed he wouldn't take it lightly.
"Then help me understand." Alec insisted and gave her arm a reassuring squeeze. He could see that seeing Valentine had a big effect on her and he knew there was something more behind it. He was almost sure he knew the reason behind it but he did not want to confront the girl and make things bad between them again. Instead, he hoped she would open up to him.
"Come with me." Myrcella led them outside of the Institute to make sure no one could eavesdrop on them. She was thankful Alec didn't question and patiently waited. "You have to promise me not to report anything to the Clave, Alec." She added with pleading eyes.
"I won't tell anyone. You can tell me." He replied with a smile that could cure illness in her eyes.
"No, Alec. Promise me." She grabbed his hands, feeling a jolt of electricity rush between them and she wasn't the only one who felt it.
"Myrcella Fairchild, I promise not to utter a single word to anyone." Alec replied looking into her eyes.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." Myrcella whispered to herself. Magnus would go crazy if he knew she was about to tell her secret to a Shadowhunter but she knew Alec would keep it safe. "My father isn't a warlock. He's more of a monster." She added looking at her feet in shame.
"Valentine is your father then?" Alec asked her, now knowing his hunch was actually reality. He was now thankful that he didn't actually inform the Clave about her before. The girl just nodded in reply. However, something wasn't adding up. "But then how? You're part warlock?" He asked in confusion.
"He experimented on me when my mother was pregnant with me." Myrcella replied, her voice almost a whisper because her throat was burning. She knew if she spoke any louder she would cry but she didn't. She didn't want to cry anymore because of that monster.
"I am so sorry." Alec replied not knowing what to say. He couldn't imagine a world where a father could do that to his own child.
"I hope you don't see me like that monster now." Myrcella added fearing what he might think of her now but he put a finger under her chin and raised her head.
"Hey, hey, no." The dark haired boy replied in a gentle tone but the girl avoided his eyes. "Myrcella, look at me." He took a step towards the girl and when she met his eyes, they both realized how close they were standing. "You are not a monster. You're one of the best Shadowhunters I've seen and a badass warlock." He added trying to make her feel better but she couldn't actually hear what he was saying as her heart was beating in her chest so hard she could swear he could hear it as well.
"Thank you." She replied and to both of their surprise, wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. "Sorry." Myrcella pulled away before Alec could even react and hug her back, realizing how awkward she had made the situation. Alec could still feel her breath on his face and the hair on his neck stood up from what he was feeling. His eyes darted to her plump lips for a second and leaned down but Myrcella turned her head the last second. Their lips brushed for a millisecond and Myrcella didn't want to do anything until she figured out her feelings.
"I, uh we should go back in." Alec scratched his neck and cleared out his throat trying to forget the fact that he almost kissed the girl in front of him. The girl who drove him crazy but couldn't get his mind off of. They found the rest of their group in the control room and there was a woman Myrcella didn't know.
"Mother." Alec walked up to her, trying to find an excuse for Myrcella. "Welcome back. We didn't expect you." He added with a smile. Now that it was mentioned, Myrcella could see the family resemblance.
"You should be prepared whether you expect me or not." Alec's mother replied giving him a light kiss on his cheek.
"I am. We are." Alec stated looking at Jace who was looking at Myrcella and what they were going to tell Maryse as Myrcella was standing close to Alec, almost hiding behind him.
"We'll talk about the Institute later. Right now, we have a bigger problem. The Seelies have stopped communicating with the Clave and won't explain why. My guess is they're still upset we asked them to send scouts to look for Valentine, but no one in their realm will talk." The elder Lightwood stated walking around the group, especially giving the girls cold looks.
"I have Seelie friends." Isabelle stepped up but got shot down by her mother. Myrcella stopped paying attention to what they were saying until Maryse actually insulted the Downworlders but she knew she had to keep quiet. She focused on her breathing and keeping her warlock eyes out of sight. She knew she couldn't risk exposure to a woman who had just called Seelies "creatures".
"Alec, you stay with the Fairchild girl." Maryse declared smiling, however it wasn't sincere at all. "I want her under control. She's caused enough trouble already." She added.
"Maybe that's because I wasn't even a Shadowhunter until a few days ago!" Clary stood up for herself making her sister proud.
"And what an exciting few days it has been." Maryse shot back and Myrcella snapped.
"Never talk about my sister like that again." Myrcella walked towards Maryse threateningly but Jace was fast enough to hold the girl back. Clary gave her sister a grateful smile as Maryse's eyebrows shot up.
"Another Fairchild?" She asked intrigued and Myrcella realized she outed herself like it wasn't obvious from her hair.
