I wake up suddenly and realise I have 10 minutes to get to the bus, there's no way I'll make it.
There's no time for breakfast or a shower so I run out the door looking like I've been dragged through a bush.
I stumble into class 20 minutes late, in my rush to get out of the house I hadn't even thought about what I'd do when I got to first period English with River and Tyler. I decide to avoid them and go for an empty seat at the back next to a kid named Scott.
Scott glances up as I take the seat next to him, then he smiles. "You must be Cassie"
I look at him with confusion, how does he know my name?
"It's written on your notebook, don't look so scared."
I laugh loudly and the people in front turn to scowl at me for distracting them, I see River among the faces but he isn't looking at me, he's looking at Scott.
"I'm Scott by the way" he has straight dark hair and brown eyes which I look into as he extends a hand and I take it, noticing the way River glares at us across the room.
....................................................
I look down at the blank page in my book and say to Scott
"We've been talking this whole time and I've done no work. Mr Collins is going to give us so much homework"
"That's a bummer Cassie, what could we do about that?" Then his face lights up in mock excitement.
"Hey I've just had a brilliant idea, how about you come to my house after school and we do it together?"
I laugh and nod at the same time. "That does sound like a brilliant idea, I'll meet you by the busses after school"
Just as the bell rings I see River storm off out of the classroom, slamming the door on Tyler who is slowly trailing behind.
