Chapter 22: Sabotage
~Grant~
After today's round for Sing Loud and Proud, there were only going to be twelve contestants left and I was determined to be one of them after I nearly went home last round. I couldn't go home now. Not when I made it so far and not when I still need to prove that I could do this.
Alison was already in the greenroom when I got there so as soon as I walked inside, she headed over to me. "Grant whatever you middle name is Simms," she said. "Were you serious about that text message you sent me?"
"Grant," I said.
Alison furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
"My middle name is Grant."
"So your name is Grant Grant Simms?"
"What? No. I just go by my middle name because I hate my first name."
"What is your first name?" Alison asked before realizing she already asked me a question before we got into a conversation about my name. "Wait, hold on, forget that for now. I asked you about the text. Is it real?"
"I've sent a lot of text messages over the past couple days," I said. "You're going to have to remind me what it was. Was it about how Vikram is single? Because he is."
Alison sighed and pulled me aside so I guessed it was something serious since the cameras were rolling and quite a few other people were already in the greenroom. "You're getting married in two days?" she asked in a quiet voice. "In Alberta?"
"Oh, right, that text," I said. "And yes, I am. I know it's sudden but long story short, Ollie's mom is being homophobic and isn't agreeing to the wedding, and we need her permission here in British Columbia because we're not yet the age of majority."
"Which is eighteen in Alberta," Alison said.
"Exactly," I said. "We're still going to have another ceremony and the reception in Spruceworth later on for people who won't be able to make it to Alberta under short notice. So of course I won't expect you to be there because of Sing Loud and Proud. I jus wanted to give you a heads up just in case."
"How are you getting there?" Alison asked.
"We couldn't book any flights so we're going to have to drive there," I said. "But Ollie's dad, who is the most amazing person ever, said he's going to rent an RV for the trip there and back. We're leaving tomorrow in the RV and depending on what the next round is for Sing Loud and Proud, we're either going to leave after the wedding since we're not having a reception there or we're leaving the day after."
"So... You're basically eloping."
"Yeah, pretty much. There's an elopement package at the lodge we're getting married at that we're taking. And anyone who has time to attend the wedding but can't find a way down there is free to come in the RV. Like Grant's sister is going in it, her boyfriend and his sister, and Vikram."
"Can it include me?"
"You really want to come?"
"Uh, of course I do," Alison said. "You're my friend. I don't want to miss out on your wedding. And we'll only miss out on, like, two or three Sing Loud and Proud rehearsals. That shouldn't be too bad."
I smiled. "I'll make sure we leave the day of then since you're coming so we won't miss too much." That was if I made it pass the next round...
