JOLENE'S POV:

"Fuck!" Thomas shouted as he grabbed my wrist.

The pain shooting up my leg. Fucking bear traps. "Bear traps?!" I shouted back as I furiously held his forearm.

Nevana cursed and dropped to her knees.

God damn werewolves.

The sound of the wolves came and after getting the Northern Chief Amoux, I was ready to get his sister Vilka next.

But she was...oh she was something else!

"Where the fuck is Vilkas?!" I shouted to the wolf who growled at me.

Thomas pulled the knife out from behind him and held it toward them. They both coward back and we watched them turn human.

God damn this fucking place. "I am done with these wolves." I muttered feeling more aggravated because I knew my Annalise was in the hands of these beasts.

I'm not going to be able to travel much further after this. "Fuck." I muttered as Nevana pulled the trap open while fighting her own pain and Thomas took my foot out.

Nevana let go and it snapped back shut.

"We'll be out and back into the castle soon." Thomas reassured me as he lifted me up in his arms. I always felt safe in his arms, under his watch.

After all, he's the only one who saved me from the horror of that night.

Had he not come, they would've taken more than my spirit, child and dignity.

I could still feel Verins hot breath as he forced himself into me.

Shaking the thought off, I stared to the young woman, "We need to see your Chieftess. Tell her we've met with her brothers and they both accepted." I said watching the girl give a single nod before turning to a wolf and running back into the forest.

"Maybe Thomas and I should take this one." Nevana looked over at my ankle slowly wrapping it with her scarf.

Shaking my head I eyed the students, "We can't leave them without someone who can fight. In case it gets bad. There's a reason we've got a small army." I said low to avoid the students fear.

Nevana gave a single nod before looking to the group of them. "Bronx. Get over here." She said gesturing for the young man.

He walked over giving my ankle a long stare, "Is she going to be okay?" He's a good kid, if Anne hadn't seen him as a brother I'd marry the two today.

Thomas handed me to Bronx and he quickly took hold, "You'll join us, just make sure you don't let anyone kill her." Thomas said with a deep stare into Bronx's eyes.

The boy nodded quickly, "Of course."

A crackling sound came from the forest, my eyes meeting the creature.

He stood tall, much taller than the other wolves, his claws long and teeth doubled in length. Fangs.

His eyes held a deep red, specks of yellow within them and I realized then...he's not just a werewolf.

"Vampwolf." I spoke softly, almost a whisper and terrified he'd hear me.

They're said to be mythical, since the werewolves should be extinct anyways, this just complicates things.

"Those aren't...they're not real." Nevana spoke beside me, low and curious. I could hear the fear though.

Thomas took a step forward, "Clearly, they are." He muttered.
