Elia, South Mykonos, Mykonos, Greece
"This is bullshit!" Dionysius curses into the phone.
It had been almost three months since he last saw his wife...was allowed to see his wife, and two months since he last stepped foot in his own company. Each appeal to reinstate him as CEO had been rebuffed by the stellar job Eve Hannelore was doing and the damning fact that the press had spun it as some great feminist deed, leaving his company to the stewardship of a smart black woman full of fresh ideas.
"The board is clear that your compulsory leave is to be fully served." Andrea says as soothingly as possible
"They don't want me back at my own company!" Dionysius growls, thinking of another person who didn't want him back
"If I may... Sir... Perhaps if you kept a low profile..." Andrea suggests calmly
"Instead of being seen in public with all the women?" Dionysius probes dryly
His wife wasn't interested in their marriage and even though he'd taken lovers out very publicly in the hopes of instigating some response from Makenna, she hadn't so much as blinked in his direction since she hopped out of his yacht three months ago.
"The board took note of that, yes." Andrea reveals
The board simply weren't interested in having him back at the helm either, seeing no sign of a wife and all the signs of various very public liaisons with socialites and personalities alike. He had tried everything, from a media frenzy around his marriage to the most public engagements he had been to in his life. Nothing! Nothing was drawing Makenna out of hiding!
"You can tell them my wife hasn't." He spits back
For a while he had imagined himself reduced into a grovelling stalker, watching as much of her every move as he could gain access to, stalking the gates of Sius, prowling near company events, trying to appeal the restraining order that kept him from Sius as he tried to establish that they were married and she couldn't just ignore him and steal his company.
"With all due respect sir, even if you could produce a written statement from your wife stating that she's fine with your... activities... the board won't believe you." Andrea points out as calmly as she could
"My wife IS on the board!" He reminds her, already picturing Makenna reading the statement and casting doubt on its origins
If he wasn't so angry he'd stand back and clap for Makenna Plutarch. She was by far the smartest most conniving woman he'd ever met and always a step ahead of him! He was yet to uncover exactly how she'd ended up on the board. Lachlan had mentioned that he was a trustee, but there was no conceivable way he could've been holding all those shares for Makenna.
"Ms. Lewasi..." Andrea starts
"Mrs. Plutarch!" Dionysius shouts back
The wedding had been real and so was the marriage!
"With all due respect sir, she hasn't made any effort to take your name..." Andrea starts to explain
"Just my company and my heart and my dignity and my peace of mind..." He growls back
How had it all come to this?
"With all due respect sir...the company has always been hers...technically. She's always been your chief investor and majority shareholder. Baron Fairfax has been the longest serving member of the board and if he was doing it on her behalf..." Andrea points out
"I don't need to fucking know what Lachlan Fairfax has been doing for my wife, Andrea." He hisses back, taking in a deep breath and tapping his clenched fist against his thigh
