"Have you told them they're going to be grandparents?" Sao leans in and whispers at the nervous Makenna
She didn't imagine that the next time she was seeing her in-laws, she would be the main suspect in the murder of their son. She couldn't even begin to imagine what they were going through and how they felt about her, and this entire situation.
"I... couldn't tell them over the phone, so I thought maybe..." Makenna says, still holding on to her seat belt despite the fact that the car was fully parked and there was little left to do than step out and face Effie and Seneca Plutarch.
Her bump was still unnoticeable but she had tried to mask it with a flowing sundress anyway, bracing herself for anything as Sao opened her car door and helped her out of the car. With the news of the divorce and her confirmation as the prime suspect, Sao had suggested that they present a united front and cooperate as much as they could with the investigation. The crazy thing was just how aligned the story could become. Every thing about the theory seemed to fit in. She was the estranged wife of a brutally murdered man who was having a very public affair and had no other known enemies. So here they were, in Elias, South Mykonos, at Pluto's childhood home, the place where he had once planned to propose to her, also were he'd received divorce papers she had never filed. Mikulas had promised to go through all possible registries to find the divorce papers, the lawyers who had sent them and the reason behind it. Her lawyers had corroborated her story, that she had never filed for divorce, at least not through their services.
Sao, on the other hand, hoped it wasn't suspicious that the only person to set eyes on the divorce papers was the missing Dionysius Plutarch. He hoped they'd find a copy of the papers or some clue as to who sent them here.
"Makennaoula..." Seneca gruffly chimes, pulling her in for a tight hug
"I can only imagine what they're putting you through." He sighs, reprimanding an invisible press corps as she tries her best to make sure he doesn't feel her baby bump
"I'm really sorry about everything..." she nervously says as he pulls away from the hug, holding her at arm's length to study her
She tries to smile but her emotions were shaky and she couldn't quite tell how to feel. The last time she had been here was to tell them Dionysius had proposed. That was almost six years ago! And she'd almost made it back here when her husband had attempted to dump her on their honeymoon a few months ago.
"It'll come to pass koritsi mou (my girl). It always does." He assures her with a stiff nod of his head
He didn't believe her capable of murder, and Makenna felt a deep sense of relief from that.
"Kamari mou, (my handsome) have you come to stand there and confuse the women of the village or will you get in the house?" Seneca lightly throws over his shoulder to Sao, who chuckles heartily at that
"Effie's made very many loukoumades and quite a lot of food. I hope your appetite is ready for it." Seneca informatively whispers to Makenna as he leads her into the house, which was filled with the heavenly scents of foods the baby absolutely agreed with
"I think I'll manage." She sighs, taking in the heavy but wonderful scents in the air
Who knew she absolutely needed some fresh Greek food!
"Makennaoula! You're just in time!" Effie chimes, carrying a bowl of pastries to the already set table, facing the pool, the ocean and the horizon.
Pluto had thrown her in that pool the last time they were here, all so he could pretend to give her mouth to mouth too. She had been teasing him about being shy to kiss her around his parents and he had found a loophole. He'd also pretended to have cooked her breakfast one morning and Effie had hit him for taking credit for her cooking while Makenna laughed and laughed and laughed until her stomach hurt.
