"You know what time it is. Get in here gorgeous and let me be your boyfriend." Makenna says, her beautiful body draped in one of his comic book t-shirts and nothing else as she pats the bed excitedly
In this version of his memory/fantasy, her hair was in bantu knots and her nipples struggled against the grey Star Wars t-shirt, her long beautiful legs peeking out from under his shirt.
There was so much about their old life together that Dionysius missed, that held him together now just as she held him together during those blissful Sunday nights. Her soft breath against the back of his neck, how adorable she was trying to be big spoon when he was much taller and bigger than her, the feel of her palm pressed gently against his chest, providing a warm embrace to his heart, her legs, too long for someone that short, draped over his, the soft sound of her voice as she chuckled at a story from his childhood or hummed encouragingly at his concepts and ideas, the little goodnight kiss she would place on the nape of his neck or on his shoulder before drifting off...
Vivid memories of her, of who they used to be to each other, of the loud and gentle ways in which she had loved him once; that's what held him together. As he struggled to find any hope in the situation, he never struggled to find the sensation of her soft breath against the back of his neck, of her warm palm pressed against his beating heart, of her warm open smile shining mischievously in her eyes. The sensation of her body cuddling his was stronger than it had ever been, and Dionysius tried to cling to it, to her palm against his heart, her soft smooth breath against his neck as she slept. He clinged as hard as he could against the noise that felt like a large object being dragged across the floor.
"Show time! Shoooooooow time!" Myrtle sang enthusiastically and off key
She'd been so pleased rolling the TV in to the bedroom to show him the news, the tributes, the list of suspects, the theories. She'd brought popcorn and everything, as if this was an episode of love island.
"I think it's time we caught up with your wife, the murderer! Do you think she'll have a closed casket funeral for you?" Myrtle sings excitedly, turning the TV on.
Despite a desperation to ignore the TV and float back into the wonderful world of Makenna cuddling him to sleep, Dionysius had learned that not one person had suspected him as missing in the first week of his kidnap, and now they all thought he was dead. Myrtle had set his car on fire and there was a headless dead body in it; whose body, he didn't know. He had self-isolated so thoroughly that noone had even thought he'd been kidnapped, let alone by Myrtle of all people. Everyone thought Makenna had killed him!
"You see she thinks that Makenna did it because you were becoming a liability to Sius with your behaviour, the affair and all that excessive partying. You'd be more valuable dead and a legend than alive and a fuck up." she points out excitedly
Makenna would never do that! The company was hers, it had always been, not just through the Sunday nights when she held him in her arms and helped him gain confidence in his concepts, ideas and intelligence, not just when she'd put her own money and Lachlan's into starting Sius but in all the ways she had let him be, fail, try again and flourish. She wouldn't just turn around and kill him "for the company"
"He agrees with her but his theory is that they needed one last great idea from you, that's why they tortured and beheaded you before burning what was left of you." she adds, clapping happily at that
Dionysius trains his swollen eyes at the tv, hoping someone, anyone would start to suspect his disgruntled former personal assistant! How could they even draw this back to Makenna? unless... Unless that's what Myrtle had planned to happen?
"Genius! It's just genius! These theories pretty much generate themselves! That guy's calling for a boycott of Sius...and if the company goes down, so does Makenna." she sings, making little excited hops on the bed.
