Ch. 8: Secret Shokugeki

Third PoV

Akio yawns.

"Th-the main chef? Me?" Tadokoro asked Dojima.

"Yes. You must decide on your own what dish to create. Yukihira, you will take the back seat as her assistant." Dojima says.

"What!? Hold on, Dojima-senpai! I was the one to make the challenge. How come Tadokoro has to-" Yukihira raising his voice.

"This challenge would never happen if I hadn't stepped in. You will accept my conditions or else. Think, Yukihira. If Tadokoro is allowed to remain by virtue of your cooking skill... then what's the point? She'll be just another worthless hanger-on. Before camp's end, she'll likely be expelled on another assignment. Or do you think you, or someone else, will be there to save her again? At Totsuki, you must prove your value through your own skill. Whether or not Tadokoro is worthy of remaining in the institute is something only she can prove. So tonight, here in this kitchen.... you, Megumi Tadokoro, are the head chef." Dojima explains.

Akio just nods to everything Dojima says as Akio agrees on what Dojima has said. Shinomiya has a tray with his ingredients in it.

"Chef Dojima. I've decided what recette I'll be making. Can I begin cooking now?" Shinomiya asks calmly.

"Sure, be my guest."

"Heh. You have my sympathy, Yukihira." Shinomiya sounded like he was trying to taunt Yukihira.

"For what?" Yukihira stares at Shinomiya.

"You've gotta feel hopeless now... what, with your own fate resting in the sloppy hands of that slug." Shinomiya says as he walks to his side of the kitchen.

Akio looks to his side to see Hinako giving a weird face.

"Chef Gotoda! Did you hear those horrible things he said?" Hinako says out loud for Shinomiya to hear.

"He's just twisted." Mizuhara said with a blank face.

"That's one of the reasons why he can never keep a girlfriend for long." Gotoda says.

"Outsiders should keep your mouths shut! Wait. Hinako! When did you get untied!" Shinomiya yells.

"Good luck, my Megumi-chan! Don't lose to that spiteful man!" Hinako says her hands cupped over her mouth.

"Shut up!" Shinomiya tells Hinako.

Akio couldn't stop laughing to himself. He tries to breath in and out but couldn't because it was too funny. Tadokoro looked paralyzed as she looks at ingredients. She even glanced as what Shinomiya was doing. Akio stops laughing at that moment.

'Chef Kojiro Shinomiya. As soon as he gradated the institute, he moved to France all by himself and opened his own restaurant in the middle of Paris, haute cuisine's nastiest battlefield! And I'm supposed to go against him... with my little recipe..?' Tadokoro thinks as she shakes a lot.

Akio stands up, knowing he shouldn't interfere but now he just feels pity for her.

'B-but my mind is bank... and I c-c-can't stop sh-shaking..' Tadokoro looks at her hands seeing how she's shaking.

"Tadokoro!" Yukihira was about to run up to Tadokoro.

"Just so you are aware, you aren't allowed to make any changed to her recipe. Right now, you are just a sous chef. You did this because you think she merits staying here, right? If you don't trust in her skills, then withdraw, right now." Dojima says pointing to the door.

Yukihira gave Dojima a serious look.

"I'm not going anywhere, sir. I'm a chef. Chefs never run from a kitchen" Yukihira says.
