{although the song is linked up top, wait to listen until you see the note further down in the story to do so (; it adds a lot to the plot I promise}

It was Friday afternoon, and golden sunshine streamed through the blinds of a certain blonde boy's bedroom as he stood in front of mirror fidgeting with the cuff of his sleeve.

Tonight was the night, and he had been anxiously awaiting the occasion for weeks.

TJ had bought tickets to see the Salt Lake Symphony Orchestra with Cyrus as an "I owe you" for refusing to let him come to his concert the previous week.

Yes, the TJ Kippen played violin in his school's orchestra, a fact he was quick to deny around most. But the first time Cyrus came over to his house, he instantly saw the bulky instrument case pressed against the kitchen counter and had interrogated TJ until he begrudgingly admitted it was his.

And ever since, Cyrus has been relentlessly persistent in his pleas to see TJ play.

Sure, watching other people play wasn't quite the same, but it was Cyrus's first time seeing an orchestra live. Could you really blame TJ for wanting it to be more special than some mildly tuned middle school orchestra that squeaked and scratched a majority of the notes they played?

So there he stood, trying to perfect his olive green button-down. He wanted this night to be perfect. And bless his soul, he wanted to look good for Cyrus. Even if that meant spending an hour doing his hair and trying to straighten out the cuffs of his sleeves.

As they pulled up to the younger boy's house, he felt butterflies in his stomach in anticipation of the night to come.

Just then, Cyrus swung the door open and bounded down the front steps, beaming ear to ear.

Although it was no secret that Cyrus loved a good button-down and took every opportunity to wear one, TJ still felt his breath catch in his throat as the brunette slid into the car seat next to him. The maroon of his shirt made the soft pink blush that hugged his cheeks seem almost intentional.

"Are you ready for tonight? I'm just so excited! My mom told me that fancy theaters like this have real velvet seats and-"

Cyrus babbled on happily about the itinerary of the night, but all TJ could focus on was the way his eyes lit up in excitement and.... was that cologne he smelled?

~~~~~~~~~~
The two boys sank comfortably into the balcony seats of the theater. They were a rich red velvet, just as Cyrus had expected.
"This is so cool!" Cyrus exclaimed, his eyes wide in excitement.
TJ chuckled. "Relax underdog, you haven't even seen the best part yet."
As if on cue, the lights dimmed and the heavy curtains below swung back to reveal the stage. Although to TJ, it might've been just another stage to play on, to Cyrus it was astonishing. A gold curtain ruffled at the back of the stage, complementing the hickory floors that lay beneath the rows of instrumentalists clad uniformly in black.
The conductor stepped forward towards the microphone, and begun his speech welcoming the audience.
"... and with that, I present to you our selections of 'modern romance', as portrayed by the Salt Lake Symphonic Orchestra."
TJ's face warmed as he fiddled with the crease of his slacks. The theme of the night had completely slipped his mind. He turned to Cyrus, his worries melting away he saw the excitement still burning in his eyes.
