Golden afternoon haze filtered through the blinds of Cyrus Goodman's room, casting warm glowing lines and shadows across the walls and furniture. Dust swirled around in the rays of sun warming the air. Sweet melodies crackled through a battered old speaker on the oaken study desk in the corner.

And curled up in the old armchair beside the largest window in the room, sat Cyrus, nose deep in his summer reading book. He had hardly moved for hours, let alone checked his phone that had occasionally buzzed.

loney💞

hey, are we still on for today?

fingers crossed for yes because i'm on my way now

hey your dad let me in, i'm coming up if that's alright

Cyrus startled as a knock sounded at his bedroom door, pulling him sharply out of his fantasy world of England and Jane Eyre.

The door swung open gently to reveal a tousled, sun kissed TJ. His freckled cheeks were tinged pink from the warm walk from his house and his un-gelled hair fluffed up at all angles. Smiling knowingly, he walked over to the desk and with a flourish of his hand, paused the music.

"Heyyy, I was listening to that!"

TJ chuckled, admiration twinkling in his eyes. "You had no idea I was coming today did you?"

Cyrus' face flushed as his face of shock softened into a sheepish grin. "In my defense, I haven't checked the clock since breakfast, let alone my phone."

"I see... so you were just, reading? This whole time?"

"A due date is a due date Teej, and with school starting next week I have to finish this book in time. Is there any way you could stay even if I'm just reading?"

TJ crossed his arms and scratched his chin, pretending to think it over for a moment, before breaking out in a grin. "Only if you have room for me on that chair of yours."

Coiling onto his side and into the edge of the large cushy chair, Cyrus patted the newly vacated space behind him. "I suppose I could arrange that."

So TJ un-paused the speaker and crossed the room to curl up with his boyfriend.

Sinking into the cushion beside him, he tried to snuggle in, his attempts to get comfortable futile.

"Here," Cyrus giggled, sitting up slightly and tugging TJ's shirt back towards his chest, reaching his arms over his beloved's shoulders and resting his arms with the open book on his chest.

Finding this new situation much more agreeable, TJ snuggled in to cyrus' chest, tilting his head to the side and just resting, letting his lids lower ever so slightly.

"I think I'm just gonna rest my eyes for a bit if that's alright?" TJ yawned, relaxing into his boyfriend's touch.

Stopping his head down, Cyrus planted a firm kiss on the heated forehead of the boy that had made him his pillow.

"Goodnight then, Thelonious."

Normally, TJ would've made some sort of protest, but he was already beginning to doze off, his breathing heavy and slowed.

So there the boys lay, TJ lazily in slumber and Cyrus resuming his book. Resting his arms holding the novel on his companion's chest, he read as his limbs raised and lowered ever so slightly to the pattern of TJ's breathing.

And there they stayed for a good few hours, relaxing together in the tranquil warmth of the August afternoon.

Far too soon, they would be off to high school, facing the stresses and perils of teenage living. It would be chaotic to say the least. But for now, they sat there, just existing as a couple. And they wouldn't have it any other way.

But for some reason, at 2am tonight, inspiration struck, so here I am publishing a short lil fluff update for you all to wake up to. Anyways, I hope everyone has a wonderful school year <3 comments and votes are appreciated as always, and I'm glad to be back :)
