The Institute is on high alert and power of the Institute has changed hands once again. The Shadowhunters feel like they're under a microscope — Leon and Kai especially — when an old acquaintance of the London Shadowhunters becomes the new Head of the New York Institute; by authority of the Clave.
Leon also struggles to find out where his relationship with Alec Lightwood is headed while they hunt for Valentine; before he destroys everything they know and love. As their love for one another grows, and falls into question with their new boss, they finally begin to close in on the Circle and on Valentine.
