Beam sat on the bed, staring at his phone. It seemed that in a matter of hours, their roles had switched. Beam was now calling Forth over and over. Only one difference. Forth wasn’t even texting so Beam could make sure he was okay. He had no idea what Forth was doing, or where he was at.
He doesn’t know why he lied. Was he scared of how Forth would react? Worried Forth would think they were doing something? Now, he realizes that lying only made it worse for him. Now Forth would really think something was happening between them.
“Why did I lie?” Beam asked himself quietly as he laid his head in his hands. He felt so bad.
He dialed Forth’s number again, and like the so many other times before, he got an automated voice telling him he wasn’t reachable.
He sighed and looked at the clock. Forth had been gone for almost four hours, and it was getting late.
Beam stood up and decided to eat dinner and take a shower. He hoped that once he was done with both that Forth would be home.
After he was out of the shower, Forth still wasn’t home. He sighed and went to the wardrobe to pick out clothes. Instead of opening his own side, he opened Forth’s.
He grabbed one of his white t-shirts and a pair of basketball shorts. He held the shirt close and inhaled the scent.
It smelled just like the love of his life.
He smiled and went to close the door when he spotted a small velvet box sitting deep in the corner. It was supposed to be hidden under the white shirt.
Beam reached forward and held it in his hand. He took a deep breath and opened it.
Inside the box were two, identical, silver rings. Beam gasped and dropped to the floor. He held his mouth as tears fell out of his eyes. He closed his eyes and held the box close to his heart.
He sat there, on the ground, for a good solid twenty minutes, crying.
He finally got his breath sat on the bed. He was still holding onto the box with the rings.
He picked up his phone and called Forth again, immediately getting the voicemail.
“Forth,” Beam spoke between sobs. “Please, please come home. I’m sorry.” He said before hanging up.
He didn’t know why he was crying so much.
Forth had engagement rings. He was going to ask Beam to marry him. That made Beam feel even worse. Maybe that is why he was crying so much.
He quickly put the box back in its place and ran to the bathroom to get dressed. He washed his face with cold water and went back to lay down.
He laid in the bed looking up at the ceiling. The empty spot beside him made him feel cold. He grabbed the pillow Forth usually used and cuddled it close, closing his eyes and trying his best to drift off to sleep.
A few hours later, Forth finally came home.
He had spent the last, however many, hours with Jane. They talked and Forth explained what had happened and why he was upset. He hated to admit it, but he cried a lot.
He quietly slipped off his shoes and made his way over to the bed.
Beam had only gone to sleep less than an hour before. He was still clutching onto Forth’s pillow.
Forth noticed that Beams eyes were a little puffy and he still had tear stains on his cheeks. Forth’s heart hurt when he saw this.
He walked over to the bed and climbed in next to Beam, not even bothering to change.
He gently caressed Beam’s face with his right hand. Beam was slowly opening his eyes. He wasn’t a very deep sleeper.
“Forth?” Beam said so softly that Forth wouldn’t be able to hear it if it wasn’t so quiet in the room.
“Yeah. I’m here, baby.” He said. Beam raised his hand and rested it on Forth’s cheek.
“I’m so sorry.” Beam said, a tear rolling out of his eye again. Forth shook his head and leaned forward to capture Beam’s lips.
It wasn’t a deep or passionate kiss, more like a loving and soft one. And even though it wasn’t passionate, it still meant everything to them.
Forth pulled Beam toward him and held him close to his chest. Beam wrapped his arm around Forth’s waist and buried his face into Forth’s chest. He inhaled the scent and wanted to cry even more.
