Adrien stared at her with such an intense gaze that all she could do is stare back.

Adrien groaned. "Mari... If you meant it, then tell me... so I can move on."

Marinette gulped, trying to find her voice. "No." She said shakily, "No. I didn't mean it."

Adrien loosened up. "Are you sure?"

Marinette nodded, biting her lower lip. Adrien let out a loud relieved sigh and turned back to her.

"I thought I lost you."

Marinette stilled at those words. Her cheeks heated up and sobs broke loose. Her hands instinctively rose to cover her face in embarrassment.

"A-Adrien?"

He looked at her, standing at the door, so far away from him, crying but forcing herself to speak.

"I'm sorry. I don't know why I said I never wanted to see you again. It wasn't true. I was just so... angry. I wasn't thinking straight. You deserve more, Adrien. Not a useless girl who doesn't even appreciate you for-"

She felt his fingers touch her wrists, slowly removing her hands from her tear stained face. His eyes were a sad dull green.

"Mari. No." He sneaked his fingers into hers, holding her small delicate hands in his, "I was the one who wasn't thinking straight. I should have trusted you. You're stronger than you think you are. It's just... I guess I just felt the need to protect you."

Marinette let go of one of his hands to wipe away the tears in her eyes. "That is kinda sweet, I guess." She smiled slightly, voice lower than a whisper, "Thank you."

"So you forgive me?" Adrien asked hopefully.

"Only if you forgive me for saying the awful things I said." Marinette answered.

Adrien broke into a smile that lit up the room around them. "Definitely."

Next thing Marinette knew, his free hand moved up to stroke her face. The touch was so light. As if he was afraid she would break.

She kept her tender gaze on him. They were finally alone. Not just because their friends and their kwamis were gone. It was like a perfect love story. Almost like they were the last two people on the face of the Earth. In their own little bubble.

His thumb swept across her lower lip, and he said, almost afraid. "May I?"

She smiled the biggest smile possible without opening her mouth and pressed her forehead against his. They were so close, she could feel his breath on her skin. Adrien anxiously awaited for her permission, eyes darting from her lips, to her eyes and back to her lips.

Marinette grinned.

"No."

Adrien gaped at her and Marinette started to laugh. Stunned and embarrassed, Adrien started to back away before Marinette pulled him close again and got on her tip toes.

Adrien felt the sensation of butterflies in his stomach when she closed the space between them. He leaned in and pressed his lips against hers.

And for a moment, nothing mattered to him anymore.

The feeling of her lips, her smell, the way their bodies were close together, the knots in his stomach, the way she chased him down when he tried pulling away, the tenderness of her movements, the way her fingers squeezed his hand in a kind of reassurance he couldn't explain, the way she breathed. He couldn't get enough of it. Any of it. She was like a drug to him. Addictive.

It wasn't the first time they kissed. But instead of forgetting it, Adrien knew this one would haunt him in his dreams. And it better.

Slowly, he pulled away and her eyes fluttered open in a beautiful daze. Marinette couldn't believe what just happened. Four years ago, if someone told her she'd get to kiss this boy the way she did, she would've laughed in their face.

"Adrien?" She breathed.

Adrien mumbled back in response, his words inaudible.

Marinette smiled again and leaned the side of her head on his chest, listening to his rapid heartbeat. It sounded so beautiful. Like some kind of melody on repeat. She couldn't get enough of it. Adrien just stood there, being her support and enjoying the smell of her silky hair. He held her hand tightly.

The urge resurfaced again. The urge to speak and tell her...

Adrien groaned internally when he found that his lips couldn't form the words.

It's just three little words, Adrien! What's wrong with you?

Then he realized... It wasn't just three little words. In fact, it was a heck of a big deal. When was the last time he ever said those words? He has only ever said it to his mother. Saying it, meant not taking it back. Saying it was a declaration to the World that he did have feelings for her. He didn't want to break any promises. What kind of a boyfriend would-

Boyfriend.

It was like his brain finally comprehended what just happened. He looked down at her. Her eyes were closed, peaceful. He was speechless, that was what it was. Marinette had left him speechless with her actions. Did she love him back?

Suddenly, she backed away, a timid smile still plastered on her face. "Sorry, I- um." She stammered, scratching the back of her neck, "I'd love to stay like that for a while longer. But we have more important things to worry about right now."

Adrien grinned. Always the sensible one.

"Alright but what can we do right now? Master Fu already left with the Miraculous Box. The others are already after Hawkmoth. I mean, I guess you can lead the prayer-"

"Ohmygosh." Marinette exclaimed, suddenly ecstatic. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him upstairs.

"Mari?" Adrien questioned, confused.

"I can't believe we completely forgot about this. Well, Chloe should've at least remembered. Maybe that's why the transformation didn't work..."

"Mari?" Adrien said again, eager to know what was on her mind.

Marinette turned to him, her eyes shining with excitement. Adrien felt like she just swept him off his feet.

"Remember the piece of paper Juliek gave Chloe before we left?"

Adrien quickly caught on. "It was from his father's notebooks! Mari, you're a genius!"

Marinette smirked to him. "Oh I know." She said, making Adrien laugh as she grabbed hold of the door knob to Chloe's room, "We better find her bag."
