-Alex's POV-
It's been a few days since he walked me hope. God, does that irritate me. Those two are up to something, if it's ever.. EVER.. got anything to do with Sasha, it's bad. Danny is a no good dirty rotten... My mind is racing as I pack my bag for the bell to ring. Sitting in third period, regretting not having a sweatshirt on today. It's been a little chilly. The air feels colder than normal. Tension is rising.
My eyes spark to life as the bell rings, assessing the amount of people getting up, I'll just wait til they all leave to go too. The large group at the door keeps shuffling out til finally I find an opening and squeeze out. Tired of waiting for them. Making my way to my locker, scanning the hall for a royally pissed off Sasha and as unfortunate as this sounds, she's at her locker, on the opposite side of my locker. Sadness builds up as I try to duck behind others to secretly make it to the locker. When it's close, I use the crowd more. Guys always swarm around her, and especially when she's single. They gawk and she entertains as I successfully switch the class books and binders then head towards the hallway vending machine. Sudden craving for something salty but not sure what. As I started punching the numbers in for crunchy Cheetos, someone starts yelling.
"Who do you think you are? You're not allowed to hurt her!" Whipping my head to the commotion I see a football player in Danny's face and Danny standing tall. How this kid makes it through doors is beyond me folks. He's not a short guy, he's tall and lengthy, he looks possible 6"7 but he's got muscles. Hidden but everyone knows he's got strength. He would be one of the quarterbacks if the team ever got him on it. The football player was Tanner Morris. He's stocky but a great deal shorter than most guys. He's never been apart of drama before so this is gonna be big.Danny's eyes never waver but even with a blank expression you can see the annoyance and anger in his eyes. He sighed and backed away.
"I never hurt her.. You don't know her the way you think you do and that's okay. But you better back off if you know what's good for you" his tone wasn't aggressive, it was strict. He meant it and everyone knew it as well.
Thinking quickly looking for a distraction and got one, the vending machine was dropping a bag of trail mix instead of Cheetos.
"Are you kidding me!? If i wanted those I would have picked them!" Slamming my fist and leg into the machine glancing over at Tanner and Danny. Everyone turned to look at me as Danny is walking away. Phew, close one. I watch to make sure he leaves and regret it greatly as he turns and sends me a wink with a killer smile. Some how I get a feeling that's gonna bite me in the ass.
She hasn't noticed it right away until it pokes her face. A marker was held close to her cheek and she just smeared it on her cheek when turning to look at the vending machine.
"Bestie!" She gasped, pouting. Shes looking at her best friend in the whole world whose laughing, his weight supported from the water fountain.
"Sorry Ally, couldn't help it." He beamed his smile at her "okay, come on. Gotta get that off".
He grabbed my hand pulling me towards the bathroom as I cover my cheek keeping my head down. He's still a dick.
"Why'd you do that?" I hit is shoulder. He just looks around acting like he couldn't feel it. Shaking my head I pull my wrist away and pass him focused on getting this marker off in the bathroom, he's not exactly short either. Nathan is probably 6"3 with beach boy blonde good looks. Why he's my best friend, no clue.
We met in fifth grade, he had this really curly blonde hair and with honey brown eyes. He walked into the class, looked around and sat down next to me.
"Momma told me to pick one person that looks the most interesting and be their friend" he said loading his desk with his pencils and notebooks.
"Oh.." is all I could manage out. It shocked me to hear that. There's plenty of others, one of the boys brought that bulky pen with different colors, you push a different lever for the colors. Usually ranging in blue, pink, red, and green. It never made since to me even now. He's not really too friendly, doesn't want to go to dances, he and I spent the freshman dance at his house, watching a Buffy Marathon on Netflix, eating popcorn, and talking about our crushes on the show. The memory brings a smile on my face as I enter the bathroom. I rush in finding the paper towels, damping the cloth with warm water and soap, I start to wash the marker off. It takes a few but it eventually comes off with handfuls of soap and paper towels. After throwing away the huge black ball of shame, I walk out the bathroom with Nathan waiting. We lock arms and we're off to forth period together. We sit by the windows in the last row, the seat in front and behind us are clear most the time. That's all I've ever noticed, until today. Today I walked in, sat down then looked to my right, behind me two seats to the right, in the back of the room, is Danny. He's leaning back in the seat, headphones in, ignoring the world. Then his eyes locked on mine, we were at a stare off and for a second, a split second, he smirked. His eyes have never been hard to miss. they're pale ocean blue, almost silver. You can't miss them but they are intimidating so I quickly shift and turn in my seat.
Nathan turns his chair to face me, back to the teacher, he smiles and pokes my forehead. "Got a surprise" he grabbed his bag "close your eyes"
Obeying I close them, having flashes of blue silver as the zipper on the bag opens, he reaches in, pulls out something that crinkles annoyingly then his bag hits the floor.
"Okay, open" when I open my eyes he looks excited to show me homemade cookies his mom stuffed in aluminum foil and a ziplock bag.
"No way." I get a bit excited, "was it your mom or dad who made them?"
I point to them demanding the answer."My mom." He laughed under his breath. Last time his dad made anything it was burnt. Most of us got sick after too. I hesitate but grab a cookie and it melts in my mouth, soft and chewy. "Your mom is incredible. Can I have her?" I joke munching the cookie.
"No, but my mom wants to know what you're doing this weekend" he reaches in grabbing a cookie for himself. I tap his hand away playfully but he still grabs one.
"Working. You know that though. Every weekend and most week days."
"Can you take Saturday off?" He looks really sad, a bit desperate. I sigh.
"I can try, that's all I can offer. What's going on anyway?" I lean forward propping my head on my hand, watching his facial expressions and body movements as he talks.
"Oh, well, she wants to have this big dinner with family friends and stuff but I don't wanna be there so her and I got into it. Our mutual agreement was you getting to be over then" his hands rest in the back of the chair and he's slouched over it, he looks tired.
"You okay?" I grab his hand holding it reassuring Nathan. That's when a pen came flying over and hit the window next to us both. I calculate where it came from and whip my head toward the path. It clicked, Danny. Who was, in fact, smirking. This fucker..
