MARCELS POV

I trusted her.  I knew nothing about her. She seen my studio and didn't even blink.  She didn't tell me how sorry she was for me.  She didn't run away like anyone else would have,  like I would have...she only promised to stay. She promised me. She doesn't even know me,  and she promised me. She knows that she might get treated like I do,  and she still promised.

I had a friend. Not for long, but I had a friend. I smiled at the thought, it has been so long since I have had a real friend, I didn't even remember what it felt like. It was a great feeling.

But it won't last forever.

We spent a good portion of our afternoon in the studio.  I, of course, didn't show her everything. Something's were embarrassing. I didn't want her to leave, it was inevitable. I wanted to prolong it.

"Hey Mar, what's this?" oh, no.  She is holding the biggest thing(s) I would never want her to see..

"Ava, please don't look in there.... It's personal." she frowned, but put it back.

"Will I ever get to look?"

"no, " maybe. If our friendship even laste. I certainly didn't want to scare her off by showing her how horrible of a person I really was.

"Can we ask each other questions and we both answer honestly?" The worlds shortest friendship!  I only nodded at her.

"Why were you reading willow? In the coffee shop I mean.." I forgot about that.

"Honestly?" she nodded, "to maybe see what kind of a person you were. I had seen you reading it on the first day. I had thought you might be trying to hurt me."

Silence.

"Why do you want to be my friend?  You don't know me, and yet here you sit, promise and all." I asked her, to break the silence.

"Why not?" I nvalid argument, I  had already answered that. "why didn't you talk at lunch? "

"Nothing to talk about," it was true. "Why do you sometimes stare at me?  Don't you know that's creepy! " I joked with her.

She blushed. It was really adorable. "I don't really know. You just have a really nice smile.." that's it?  I don't believe it. "why do You always stare at me?  Hmm?"

Should I bend the truth?  I wasn't sure. "I don't understand you.  I tell you all of this," I waved around the room, "and you still want to be my friend. Anyone else would have ran away screaming."

"I'm not everyone else. " she interupted me.

"Your father wasn't at dinner," her mom Lacey was, "was he at home with you?"

"UM, he was killed in action about four and a half years ago..." her voice trailed off.

"Oh, my.  I am so sorry. I shouldn't have asked. What was he like? If I may ask."

She smiled, " He was amazing, my dad. He had to be one of the most caring people. I was, I am lucky to have him as a father." she sat silent for a few moments. "Before he had to go back he had told us all about his high school years, how he had fallen in love with my mom. I remember walking into his study, and he was crying. I, of course, went to comfort him. He had found old pictures if him and his bestfriend from school. His friend had killed himself his junior year. He was bullied because his family didn't have a lot of money. He didn't have nice clothes. He was... Different.

"My dad was the only real friend, and he never even told my dad that he felt the way he did. My dad said he always seemed fine. Until one day, he didn't come to school for days."

I just watched her. Of course, I knew how her father's friend had felt. He had felt alone. He felt that no one would understand what he felt on the inside. He couldn't tell anyone anyways.

"My dad had said that he still remembered the principals voice on the school speakers. He remembered everyone acting like they all of a sudden cared." She stared at me for a moment. "Marcel, you wouldn't ever do that, would you?"

I just stared blankly until her eyes. I don't really know if I would. I have thought about it many times, I just kind of decide against it. I don't really know why I do...I would be better off dead anyways.

I guess my silence gave her my answer, and I was ashamed of my answer.

Change of subject, "Ava, what is one thing you like most about yourself?" I realized after that kind hoped she wouldn't ask me back.

She thought for a moment. "My ability to love and care unconditionally, just like my father." she was still sad about my un-answered answer.

...............

The rest of the night went similar to that. I really got to know somethings about her that made her even more amazing. Things that made her even more deserving of a better friend than me.
