________

james rarely let the stress of uni get to him properly. he'd become a master of distraction; filming videos, going out with friends, he wouldn't let himself be unoccupied enough to think about the exams lurking in the nearby future. every time the tears would come he'd blink them back and move onwards; it's what he did best.

but this time it hasn't been so easy. here he was sat at his desk, the clock nearing 11pm. he had an exam the next day and he was having the usual last minute panicked thoughts of 'i don't know anything.' the sensible side of him was trying to tell him that he did actually know everything, the entire textbook cover to cover. but the not so kind side of his brain was screaming at him and he was listening.

his hands began trembling and he ran them through his hair to try calm down. he took two deep breaths, pushed his glasses back up his nose and took a long gulp of water. slamming the bottle back onto his desk and he squinted at the computer screen again. he still couldn't think of the answer to the practice question he had up. his brain had blanked an flak he could think off was how much of a screw up he was. he blinked back more tears and ran his shaking hands over the keyboard. the room was closing in on him and spinning at an alarming rate.

it was all so much for him that he hadn't heard the quiet knock on the door. he hadn't heard fraser open the door and come over to him. he didn't even notice fraser was in the room with him until he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder.

it frightened him and he turned sharply to fraser. fraser retracted his hand. 'sorry didn't me to scare you, just checking on you,' he said softly, a kind smile on his face. he looked at james who was physically shaking and frowned. 'hey, it's okay,' he whispered and wrapped his arms around james. james relaxed into his embrace and tears slid down his cheeks. fraser gently rocked him and wiped away his tears with his sleeve. 'it's okay it's okay im here,' he mumbled. james caught his breath back after a couple seconds and sat back up again, blushing slightly. 'sorry,' he said looking back at the keyboard. fraser shook his head. 'don't apologize james, you're allowed have emotions you know,' james nodded, fumbling with his fingers.

'i think you should come to bed james, the exam isn't until two tomorrow. i'll pull you out of bed at eight to study if that'll make you go asleep,' james though about it before nodding again.

soon enough the two of them were curled up against each other, fraser planting gentle kisses into james' forehead. within ten minutes the two of them were sound asleep; the only sound heard was the muffled traffic outside.
