Slow Motion

Jungkook sat on the floor of the living room, one eye on the TV, wrapped in blankets as he worked quietly through the groups of sounds Mingyu's hyung, Jisoo, had asked him to work on. Wonwoo moved around in the kitchen, Mingyu's soft voice overlapping with his. Taehyung was off on a mission, again.

After a few failed attempts to get back into the rhythm of work, Mingyu and Wonwoo had insisted Jungkook take a break and focus on learning to speak again, and that meant he spent most of the time wandering around the house, practicing sounds under his breath and trying hard not to make too much noise when they didn't work.

Jungkook heard the knocking first, but he just fidgeted and stayed put, glancing over to make sure the door was locked. It crossed his mind that he should try to talk to Mingyu and Wonwoo, to let them know, but he hesitated. Would it work?

He settled for 'm', since it seemed the easiest. Seconds later he'd buried his head in the blanket, humiliated. He didn't want to be a baby!

"M-M-Mi-Mi-Mi-" He continued to try until at last he let out an irritated groan. "Min--!"

"Hey, what's wrong?" Mingyu asked, crouching beside him. "Do you need help with something?"

Jungkook bit his lip and pointed at the door, face heating up in embarrassment. Mingyu smiled, patting his shoulder, and stood up.

"There's no need to be embarrassed. You're trying your best. I'll go see if they're still there."

Jungkook nodded, then flopped down on his stomach, muttering "Min, Min, Min," under his breath over and over. There was no way he was going to forget that syllable. It had cost him too much.

"Oh, hey!" Mingyu said. "I haven't seen you in awhile! How've you been?"

"Pretty good. Taehyung said to meet him here...?"

"Aha!"

Jungkook heard Mingyu laughing and sat up, craning his neck to look around the couch. He couldn't see the person Mingyu was talking to clearly, but Mingyu was obviously happy.

"So you're going to tell him?"

"Yeah," the stranger said. "He thought it would be better if we did this before we left for the big one."

Mingyu hummed. "About that-- are you okay if he stays with us? He's been super stressed lately."

Jungkook backed away, turning back to the paper with his sounds. The voice sounded familiar, but he pushed it out of his mind, focusing on repeating the first half of Mingyu's name over and over under his breath. Wonwoo appeared in the kitchen door, grinning at him, and called, "Hyung! It's burning!"

Mingyu cursed, rushing back to the kitchen. "Come in, hyung!" he called over his shoulder. "Approach slowly, okay?"

"Okay!"

Jungkook frowned. That voice was definitely familiar. He looked up just as the person came around the couch, stopping to stare at him.

It was Yoongi.
