The ride back to my house was quick, and quiet. I hopped out of the truck, I turned around to thank Max for the ride and he turned off the truck and hopped out. "Uhm... What are you doing?" I asked him. He pulled a gun from below the driver's seat.
"Did you honestly think that I am going to leave you out here." He said. "This is the skulls territory, they didn't take well to strangers." He added on.
"Well. What if I didn't plan to go back to your territory?" I asked him.
"Then you're committing suicide." He said as we walked up to the front door of my house.
"Well I don't want to go back to that little house Khan is staying in, how do you guys all fit in that house anyways?" I asked him."We don't everyone is scattered between that house and the two beside it, and the house directly across from it. The one you ripped the gutter off of scaling the thing." He said and I opened the door to my house and walked into it.
"I'm sorry about that." I sighed and looked at the entry, nothing was touched. There were a couple of things knocked over, but just enough that it reminds me of when I would get back from school when I was younger and mom would be freaking out with the new baby and yelling at some poor soul on the phone. The younger kids running around like it was a madhouse.
"You shouldn't be it was amazing." Max said behind me, which snapped me out of my trance.
I smiled at him then turned and walked through the hall and into the kitchen. I stopped and stared at where I woke up only a couple of days ago.
"So... If you aren't going to back to the houses, then where are you planning to go?" He asked me, and in that second I felt everything hit me, almost like it was for the first time. I didn't have anyone, I am on my own. I could feel the tears fall on my cheeks.
"I don't know." I sobbed, I turned to Max who I hugged, which he accepted and pulled his arms around me.
"I live in the house across the street from Khan's. You can come stay with me." He told me. "Until you find out what you want to do, or whatever you choose." He held me and for once since this started I felt safe. "Plus side it might piss Khan off." He laughed and so did I. I let go of him and pushed away.
"I am sorry about that." I told him. "It's just... I don't think anything hit me until right now." I added.
"Trust me I understand. We all do." He reassured me.
"I am going to grab some things." I pointed upstairs, Max nodded, and I made my way up the stairs. Max still following me, I went to my room. I shared the small room with Kali and Faye, my bed was the only one made, Kali and Faye's sheets were throw aside and messy. I pulled a suitcase from underneath my bed and started throwing my clothing into it. I made sure to grab my winter jacket from the hall closet and then we went back downstairs. I grabbed my backpack and bag. Max carried my suitcase. On my way out I grabbed a picture of the whole family we took on the day that we got Quincy, that was sitting on the mantle in the living room.
"We're going to need to wrap this up." Max said as I grabbed the picture.
"Why? What's going on?" I said as I followed him out the door.
"The Skulls. There's scouts found us, we have to get out of here before the heard gets here." He threw my suitcase of the back of the truck, while I hopped into the passenger seat. Then I looked up at my dad's truck and jumped out of the truck. "Where the hell are you going?" Max yelled after me. I rushed into the side door of the kitchen and grabbed the keys to the truck from the counter and then ran back out.
"Go." I yelled out him. "I'll be right behind you." I showed him the keys, he rolled his eyes at me. I hopped into my dad's truck, and prayed that the thing would start. And like it was magic the truck started, Max pulled away from the curb and I pulled out of the driveway, and followed him. We speed the entire way back to the houses, when we pulled up, I parked in the driveway of the house across the street. I hopped out of the truck.
"You know you just risked both of our asses for a truck." Max asked me.
"Well they didn't catch us did they?" I responded, and he rolled his eyes. Tony from the other side stood up and walked into the main house. Max grabbed my suitcase from the back of his truck. I ran around the side and grabbed my other bags from the passenger seat, and walked up to the porch, Max had the door open for me already. I looked back at the other porch and Khan was now out there watching us, I walked into the house, it was almost empty and it was completely quiet. "So who stays here besides you?" I asked.
"Alex most nights, and then sometimes if the girls over there have fights with their boyfriends they come stay over here for a night or two. Alex's girl used to stay here, but she left him and went up to that crazy camp." He stated and started bringing my suitcase upstairs.
"Zac?" I said. We made it upstairs, there was four bedrooms two on each side."Yep." He said while he opened a the second door on the second floor. "This one is your's." He said and set my suitcase in there. "Mine is right across." He pointed out the door, "And Alex's is next door." He point to the left wall.
"Max!" a voice that I recognized as Alex's yelled from downstairs.
"You get settled, I will go deal with this." Max said and then shut the door behind him. I walked over to the door and pressed my ear against it, I could hear him walking down the stairs. "What?!" Max yelled back at Alex on his way down the stairs.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" I heard Alex shout at him.
"What in this world do you mean Alex?" Max shouted back to Alex.
"You knew Khan was going to be pissed when you gave her a ride, and now he is extra pissed that she is staying here. Bringing her back he respects, but letting her stay here." Alex yelled at him.
"She wasn't going to come back if she was going to have to stay with him, what does he think she is going to run back to him, the second she realizes that the world is scary." Max shouted in response. The he said something quietly that I really had to focus to hear. "She's not like any of the other girls here." I could hear Max start to walk off.I sat down and leaned against the door, I looked around the room, there was a simple bed in the middle of the room and a closet off to the left. I stood up and pulled my suitcase over to the bed, there was an old time clock sitting on the floor in the corner, it said it was about noon. This is all so weird. I opened my suitcase, when I heard the door open downstairs. Either the house was to quiet and the walls were super thin, or something was up with my ears. "Khan?" I heard Max say.
"So where is she?" I could hear Khan's voice.
"Look she is just upstairs, Max was just trying to be kind when he offered for her to stay here." Alex groveled.
"Alex your the one who said you would come over here and get her." Khan yelled. I walked out of my room and looked down the railed off opening by the stairs.
"NO. I didn't I said I would come over here and talk to them. Try and figure things out." Alex replies. Khan gripped his hand, I jumped over the edge and landed in between the two boys. Alex and Khan were in a standoff and Max was sitting in a chair by the fire.
"Wow, in the past month you became way more of a dominant ass then you used to be, I mean I used to think it was cute, but now you're just annoying." I told Khan, his hand still gripped. "What are you going to do, Khan? Hurt me." I taunghted him. In my periferal vision I saw Max stand up and take a step closer to us. "I need space, Khan. That is why I am here, not because of anything you have ever done, I need to figure out somethings, that is why I left you. And that is why I am not coming back to you, I still need that space." I told him, Khan released his fist, and walked back towards the door, I turned around and looked at Alex and Max, I waited for the door to close behind me then said. "I'm hungry, you guys got anything to eat?" Max smiled and Alex.
"I am pretty sure that we have something." Max said.
