natalie's pov
-at home-
"i can't believe this is where you live now. this place is amazing!" elise said as she gazed around my room. she had done the same thing in just about every room i showed her, including the bathroom.
"yeah. it's still a little crazy to me too." i replied.
"i missed hanging out with you. i couldn't wait for today, i was so ready to spend the week with you." she said as she laid her bag by my bedroom door.
"i missed you too! it sucked not being able to tell you about brendon and not being able to see you. but now you're here!" i exclaimed.
"hey girls! come downstairs for a minute!" brendon hollered from the living room.
we ran down the stairs to see zack and brendon standing in the living room talking.
"what's up?" i asked as i bounced off the last step.
"i didn't know if you guys were planning on doing anything once you got here, but i figured i'd ask if maybe you guys wanted to have a little barbecue and swim?"
"we were planning on catching up and doing girly shit but we can do that later, so yeah sounds good!" i replied.
with that, elise and i went back to my room to change into our bathing suits. when we got outside, zack and brendon were talking by the grill. i stood at the edge of the pool, hesitant to get in. the water was probably going to be cold.
"whats wrong nat?" elise asked as she walked behind me.
"it's probably cold." i said bluntly, before feeling a gentle push on my upper back.
the water was cold, just as i had suspected. i made my way to the surface and glared at elise.
"what was that for?" i questioned.
"i was just giving you a little nudge. i wanna swim!" she said as she jumped in.
"holy shit it is cold." she said as she made her way to the surface.
soon after, brendon and zack made their way into the pool. brendon showed off by doing flips off of the roof of the studio while elise and i laughed and talked about what we've been up to since we last saw eachother. before we knew it, it was dark out and we made our way inside.
elise and i dried off and changed into some clothes before putting on facemasks and doing the girly things we would do every time we hung out.
"so, have you met and boys you might be interested in lately?" elise asked.
"nope. i haven't exactly been looking though." i replied.
"well good. boys suck. they're a bunch of assholes." she said bluntly.
"plus i dont need boys. i have you!" i said with a smile.
"yeah. actually... i need to talk to you about something." she said hesitantly.
"what's up?" i asked worriedly.
"um... well, we have known eachother forever. and you mean everything to me, because you are my best friend. you've been there for me when no one else was and supported me through lots of tough times. and i think... i may like you... more than a friend." she said shyly.
i sat in silence, not knowing what to say.
"and i don't expect you to like me back or anything, i don't want to make you feel like you have to do anything or even say anything. if you want, we can forget i even said anything. i just felt like you should know. it didn't feel right keeping a secret from my best friend." she said after a moment of silence.
"i don't want to forget what you said. i'm happy you told me. but, i think i need to take some time to think about this. so, how about we move on from it for now, and i can process later. okay?" i tried to say calmly, but it sounded more questioning.
"are you sure? i just don't want this to change anything." she said, tearing up.
"look. this is kind of a big deal, but we will work it out. in the meantime, let's just have fun." i reasoned.
with that, we spent the rest of the night as we would any other time we hung out. what elise said never left my thoughts though. for a long time, i questioned my sexuality, and eventually i just figured i was straight. but the more i thought about how i felt about elise, the more i began to think i was wrong.
