"This is where she lives?" Jake's voice is filled with shock as he looks up at the large apartment complex. The building is white with large glass windows scattered across it. The height is really long, resembling a large skyscraper.
"Yeah, this is the address she sent me." I clear my throat and blink a few times.
"Wow, it's, uh, extravagant." Grayson comments while looking back at me.
"Yes, because you live in such a dump." Jake sarcastically replies.
"Let's just go in, I'm cold." I say while taking a few steps forward, opening the heavy metal doors of the lobby.
Wind blows through my straightened hair, courtesy of Lanie. She made sure I looked presentable for my dinner tonight. With a slight makeover and wardrobe change, I enter the living area of Laura Koch wearing a white sweater and leggings. It's a little bit nicer than what I would normally wear, especially since it's from Lanie's closet.
"Damn, this place is fancy." Jake mutters, looking up at the chandelier hanging from the high ceiling.
"Fancier than our place?" Grayson teases with a smirk.
"They all look the same." My brother admits.
I take a step closer to the concierge, giving the man a bright smile. "Hello, we're here for-"
"Laura Koch?" He raises an eyebrow with a low grin.
"Uh, yes." I let out a chuckle.
"She was expecting guests." I watch as he motions toward the elevator. "Fifth floor, number three seventy four. You can head up there now."
"Thank you." I politely smile before turning back to my two boys.
I reach out and hold Grayson's hand as the three of us walk over toward the elevator. Once we're inside, Jake lets out an anxious breath. He's extremely on edge, I can tell.
"It should be okay." Grayson's positive words speak through the timid environment.
"Yeah, nothing to worry about." My eyes sneak a peek at Jake, who is tapping his foot against the floor.
When the doors reopen, we step into the long hallway. Walking to our left, we are finally met with the numbers 374 in a cursive font.
My knuckles tap on the door, a little louder than I anticipated. I can feel my heart pounding as I squeeze onto Grayson's hand.
The door swings open, and Laura is revealed to us. Her dark hair is pulled in an updo and she's wearing a long black dress.
"Welcome, I'm so glad you guys were able to make it for dinner." Her smile is sincere as she motions for us to walk into the large apartment. I can tell she wanted to embrace us all into a warm and welcoming hug, but she restrained herself.
"Thank you for inviting us." I say as we all walk inside.
"Jake, I'm so happy you're here." Her nervous words cause me to turn my head to look at them.
"Uh, yeah." He awkwardly scratches the back of his neck while glancing at me.
"You have a lovely home." Grayson says while looking around.
"Thank you, we just redid everything last summer." She smiles while walking ahead of us.
"Of course she did." Jake mutters, but not loud enough for her to hear.
My eyes wander around the apartment, which is almost as big as the penthouse. The kitchen is beautiful and has a gorgeous black and white theme. Walking further in, my focus goes to the living room. White couches are placed around a glass coffee table and a flat screen tv is hanging on the wall.
