~Santi's POV~

"Graduation is coming up," Ida says, her shin pressing its my chest as she lays on top of me. The way she feels on top of me right now is the most relaxing feeling in the world. The thought of graduation makes me feel sick to my stomach. My grades are great, but I'm nervous about her going away for college. I would never keep her from doing what is best for her, especially when it will help in her future career, but I still don't like the thought.
"Yeah, I know," I say. It's so weird to think that when I was younger I pictured myself in a very different situation. I thought I would be graduating then going to the police academy because damnit I was gonna be a cop despite my families record. Then I got jumped it and created a record for myself. It's not a secret that I was robbed of what I wanted my life to be like, but I've come to terms with it.
"What are you gonna do?" She asks. It's a question I would usually laugh at, but I don't want to make her feel bad for asking it. I wish I could give her a normal answer, but I can't.
"Stay here, same thing I'm doing now," I say, not able to keep the emotion out of my voice. "I can't go to college, I have to stay here. Castel would have my head."
"You could easily get accepted to a great college with a scholarship," she says. "I've seen your grades and you're very dedicated." I run my hands up and down my her arms, forcing a smile.
"I wish I could, but Castel's gonna be putting into me stuff after we graduate cause I'll have more time," I say. Her face falls, obviously disappointed. "I really wish I could go, but it's just not practical."
"I know, I just want what's best for you." She sits up, not bothering to cover herself with the blanket. I love that she's become more comfortable around me because I love looking at her. "You wanna watch the rain?"
"Watch the rain?" She nods. Finding her request cute, I nod, getting up with a groan. I grab the first things I see and follow her out to the living room. My shirt rides up slightly every step she takes, giving me a nice view. She sits down on the couch while I go to the window and open the blinds.
Sitting down, she presses herself close to my side, wrapping her arms around me. She takes relaxed breaths, every now and then pecking my jaw. My phone starts going off in the pocket of my sweater. She takes out for me and hands it to me. Looking down at the number, its no one I have saved.
I press the answer button and get up, immediately missing her weight on me. "Hello?" I ask.
"Hello Santiago...Florencio. Correct?" I glance over at Ida who looks at me nervously. She didn't look like that before I answered the phone.
"Who is this?" I ask. In the background is people laughing and things moving loudly. The words in the back aren't clear, so I can't make them out.
"You already know," he says. My eyes narrow and my body tenses. "I think we have something you would really like."
"I don't know who this is, but if it's some advertisement, this is a terrible way to market whatever it is." Ida gets up and walks to me, placing her hand on my arm.
"You're not as smart as they make you seem. I thought this would be easier for you," he says. What the fuck. "I'll make you a fair trade. Give us what we want and you'll get what you want."
"I don't know who the fuck you are, so how would I know what you want? And you don't have anything I want." The line goes dead for a few minutes.
"Trust me, we do." And the line goes dead. I set the phone down, looking blankly in front of me. "Have you noticed anything weird lately?" I ask.
She shakes her head. "No. Who was that?" I shake my head. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to lie to her about this or not. I could easily tell her it some someone I know saying weird shit; that way I can keep her out of this. But I also know that if you want a relationship to work in one like ours I have to have a goo balance of telling her the truth and lying.
"I don't know, but I can find out," I tell her. How the fuck would I do that? Marco used to be the go to when we needed to track down a number, but he hasn't been the most trust worthy recently. Am I even supposed to bring Castel into this? I don't even know what this is.
