•TORI• 3 WEEKS EARLIER

I begin setting up for the day, it's the early morning on a weekday when it's quietest. I make myself a cup of black coffee and sit behind the front desk.

From across the silent pit, a woman is sat reading a book. She's deep in thought, in her own world.

I sip my drink and watch as she immerses herself in her story. She has beautiful shoulder length hair with wide hazel eyes, framed by long lashes. High cheekbones and a small pointed nose, she's beautiful.

She looks in her late twenties, seemingly young in comparison to my 32 which is pretty old for Dauntless standards.

I drop a box of needles and she looks up. I pretend not to see her as I hurry to scrape them all up and shove them all back into the drawer.

When I'm standing again she waves and I smile back. She motions with her hands to join her and I pick up my coffee and cross the distance.

She sets down her book and I sit next to her, cradling my drink. "Hey I'm Nita." She extends one hand which I shake.
"Tori." I reply.

•NITA•

"I was going to head to the gym. Do you maybe want to join me?" I ask her.

She glances towards her shop before nodding. "Sure, why not." We walk side by side towards the training centre.

A woman stands behind the desk, a huge smile on her face.
"Morning Tori." She greets us happily, taking our membership cards and scanning them into her computer.
"Morning Chris, this is my friend Nita." She gestures towards me and I wave.

"Well have fun guys." We pass through into the changing rooms where I begin putting on my leggings and black sports bra.

Tori already has a bag of gym wear here which she retrieves and promptly changes into. Tying her hair into a messy bun we head into the empty quiet training area.

She lifts weights whilst I start my yoga, her eyes widening as I slide into the splits. My reaction is equally as priceless when she manages to lift an incredible mass with a graceful ease.

After an hour we decide to go to the spa section and sit in the jacuzzi. My muscles immediately relax and I sink into the bubbles.

"Well this was a nice start to the day." I joke, smiling over at her.

Tori has her eyes closed in relaxation and a faint grin. "We should do this every day." She says and I want to jump up and down with happiness at the thought.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

We met every day for 17 days, learning more about each other each visit.
I'm sat at work when my phone rings.
"This is Nita." I answer.
"Hey, sorry to disturb you at work but I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight?"
Tori sounds nervous, not pausing between words.

"Sure that sounds great. Where are we going?"
"There's this club, Flames, have you heard of it?"
"Yeah that's great. I'll meet you there at 9."
"Amazing. Can't wait."

I hang up and lean back in my spinny chair. Four pokes his out of the door. "No personal calls Nita."
I laugh and he rolls his eyes.
"I swear to god you call your family at least twice a day!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." He says innocently, fluttering his eyelashes.

•TORI•

I wait outside the club, adjusting my shirt. My hair is in a long plait down one shoulder with minimal make up, only some concealer and foundation.

She turns the corner and I try not to stare. She wears a tight fitting purple dress which perfectly accentuates each of her beautiful curves. She has a plain silver stud in her nose and hoop earrings, her smiling lips a matte black. Her eyes are rimmed with a matching purple eyeliner and eyeshadow.

She runs into my arms and hugs me tightly, I fake gasping for breath to which she giggles. We pass the bouncer who greets us warmly, thanking me for some tattoo I gave him.

We sit on stools at the bar and order margaritas. "Soo... tell me something you've never told anybody before."
She thinks for a second before speaking.
"My name is actually Juanita."

I snort before realising I might have offended her. "I'm so sorry I laughed!"
She shakes her head and rests one hand on my shoulder.
"It's fine Tor, don't worry about it."

Suddenly the skin she's touching feels warm and it's like there's this pull between us. I lean forward and gently kiss her. She stills and pulls away.

I feel so annoyed at myself. Within ten seconds I may have ruined our amazing friendship. I can't tell what Nita is thinking, her face blank.

She links our fingers and drags me down from my seat, abandoning our drinks. I follow her down to a dark hallway.

I force myself to look into her kind hazel eyes. "I'm sorry Nita, I didn't mean to-"
With that she slams her lips onto mine, pressing me forcefully against the wall. I clutch a fistful of her hair as she bites my lip.

She lifts me up and I wrap my legs around her, grinding against her center. I open my mouth slightly and suddenly her tongue is doing things to me I never thought possible.

As she kisses down my neck and my collarbone she mumbles against my skin: "I think I love you Tori Wu."
I bring her back up to me and kiss her hurriedly, moving in perfect sync.
"That's good because I think I love you too."

We're so lost in each other's touch we don't hear the footsteps behind us. It's only when somebody coughs that we separate.

Nita lets me down and I smooth down my crumpled, unbuttoned shirt and wipe her lip gloss from my neck. I look up and Tris and Marlene are staring, with their mouths hanging open in surprise.

It's Tris that talks first after a whole two minutes of deafening silence.
"Tori?"
"Umm Tris hey." My voice is quiet.

"Who's this?" Marlene points towards Nita who gives back a tight lipped smile.
"I'm Nita. Her-"
"Friend. She's my friend." I interrupt her.

Her eyes fill with tears and she sniffs. "You know what, I have to go."
She begins walking away.
"Nita! Come back!" I shout, walking after her.

She speeds up and so do I, matching her pace. I grab her wrist and pull her to my chest.
"Where are you going?" I ask her calmly.
"Where do you think Tori? Away." Her pearly white teeth are gritted in anger.

"Why?"
"You're ashamed of me!" She shouts at me.
"No I'm not! I wasn't kidding when I said I loved you!"
"So why did you call me your 'friend'? Why did you pull away when they arrived? Why?"

"I have no idea what we are! But it doesn't matter. No matter what we call ourselves you'll always be the most important person to me, the one person I've trusted in, the person I love."

She leans against me and I squeeze her tight. "I love you too."

Somebody taps on my shoulder and I turn around. It's Tris and she looks scared as hell. "What's wrong?" I ask her and she takes a deep breath.

"It's Four. He's in trouble, can you drive me there?"
"Definitely. Is he okay?" She shakes her head.

"I hope so Tori. I hope so."
