It is common to make mistakes. Everyone has. Each one has their flaws and imperfections, some even going as far as to deny them.
What was important was to accept them, and try to become a better person by learning from the past.
Choo Hana was a simple girl. She never got into fights, and she was always one to help those in need. She was kind and pleasing all in all, with very little negativity and bad things to say about her. It seemed as if almost everyone liked her, but of course there were those that were jealous and planned to bring her down.
This fateful morning she was digging in the forest few meters from their home, in search of nothing particular since she usually found some objects worth less than a won.
Such objects consisted of a spoon, some dirty cloths, and once or twice some bones of small animals. Don't get her started on how disgusting it was. She almost lost the will to go out and explore. But the forest was her second home, and the pull of nature she couldn't avoid.
While digging around with a shovel, she stumbled upon a rock-hard surface which made her stop. What was that?
So she continued to dig that particular spot, eager to see what it was. Her curiosity was something that had to be quenched, and this time it pulled at her and urged her to work faster. Why does this seem so important and life-changing? Surely it was just another hidden carpet, right?
At last, she could finally see it.
Her fingers uncurled from the shovel's handle, and her knees gave out onto the dry soil.
What a peculiar box. It was wide with a dark color, unfamiliar symbols engraved on the lid with what looked like snakes decorating the sides. It could fit her bag, but it seemed strangely heavy. What large thing could fit inside a box almost the size of a shoe box?
She studied the symbols with the tips of her fingers, allowing herself to feel it and wonder what it was made of. This box was certainly buried deep by someone who didn't want this found. But why? It seemed ordinary enough to hold her stationery and pictures of her childhood.
Curiosity tugged at her like a persistent child, and she couldn't help but run her fingers on what seemed like the opening.
A cold breeze flew by her, shaking her core and swirling the crunchy, dead leaves around. She thought she heard a voice of warning, but that could just be the wind howling.
The sky had darkened, its white clouds gone and the color a gloomy gray that replaced the light blue just a while ago.
Could it be because of the box? All this happened just after she had it in her hands.
No... that could just be superstition or even coincidence.
She didn't realize she would be unleashing something terrible to the world.
With a push of her right arm, the lid was open. What she thought was a harmless box was an understatement, since a loud bang sounded and a great force made her topple back to the ground, a blast of colors appearing and getting out, separating as they went farther from the forest. She could've sworn she heard cackling laughter and evil voices.
What just happened?
What had she done?
Running footsteps alert her to another presence, and her emotions were all over the place as she didn't know what to feel once she saw her own mother.
"Hana, what was that?" she asked, her voice worried and her brows joined.
She didn't know what to answer.
"I- I don't know..." she all but stammered. "I just dug, like every normal day, and found this box. I opened it and then some colors came out. There's red, and violet or something..." she rambled, not knowing what else to say to save herself. Little did she know she was tasked to save something else. Something bigger.
The worried look was let go in favor of some other expression. The older woman's face paled considerably, and her legs couldn't stop trembling, thus surrendering to what little comfort the dead leaves offered. Realization dawned on her, and she could no longer hide the truth from her teenage daughter.
"My sweet, sweet Hana," she started in a whisper. Only then did she meet the young one's expectant and concerned gaze. "You just unleashed the Seven Deadly Sins of the world. Now, they're hungry for power and have come back to haunt us."
Choo Hana's brows shot up to her forehead, unable to process or believe the explanation for those unusual happenings just minutes ago.
"You're joking, right eomma?"
The older woman sighed ruefully.
"If only I was."
"Well, that's the end of the world."
