"What? You're... you're joking, those are just... contacts, you're joking." Kendall rambles as if trying to make sense of my odd chemically changing irises.
I shake my head. Her heartbeat quickens with each word, harshly pounding in my ears. The blood of her latest kill courses through her veins. Her brows furrow, pushing her brows closer to the middle of her forehead.
"No, I really am a werewolf. I can smell the vampire stench on you, so don't even try acting innocent." I snap.
She scoffs and furrows her brows at me. Her burning glare pierces my soul out of anger and bitterness. Will you tell her to stop staring?? It's extremely creepy. I can't tell her that, she might go ballistic on me.
"I'm... I'm not afraid of you." She mumbles under her breath.
I step closer to her. Her heart beats even quicker than before. She softly curls into herself, shutting me out from her inner thoughts. She gulps down most of the thoughts racing in her mind and slowly looks up at me.
"Then why is your heart racing?" I ask dryly. I step back a little, noticing her slight cowers when I make my way to her. "I wanted to be honest with you, I only kept it from you because I know you are afraid of them... afraid of me." I explain.
I reach out for her to take my hand. She looks into my eyes and backs up. She shakes her head and tightly crosses her arms against her chest, shutting me out once more.
Her hair lay perfectly on her shoulders, protecting her upper body from harm. Her bangs that have mostly grown out sweep against her forehead and gently dance upon her pale cheeks.
"Jake... I can't... I can't do this. I, uh, I need time." She stumbles on her own words.
Her breathing becomes labored as she holds back all fear and any lick of heartbreak from the surface. I lick my throbbing busted bottom lip, plaster on an aching toothless smile, and reply,
"Okay babe, I love you, I'll be at the house if you need me."
I turn and point my thumb to the door and chuckle. I pivot my heels to turn around. I reach for the gold doorknob which reflects my body. In the reflection I see a tiny version of Kendall shaking her head. Her chin quivers as she processes the words in her head.
"No, I mean, like time away from you... I'm sorry." She explains.
"You're breaking up with me? We've been together for five years..." I stumble.
I can't believe what I'm hearing. She's breaking up with me? I was honest with her. I thought she would understand. Kylie understood when Kyle told her. Kylie must not have told her about Kyle.
Kendall looks down at the fabric on her robe and rubs it in between her fingers. A soft gritting sound vibrates from the cloth. The fibers grit against each other, soothing Kendall's heartbeat.
Finally, the gritting sound halts, she lifts her head up to look me in the eyes. Tears form in the deepest corners of her eyes.
"You kept this from me for five years, Jake. All of the family dinners and family meetings... they were just cover ups, weren't they?" She asks. As my gaze falls to the floor, she scoffs in disbelief. Most were legitimate, but when I was bitten I had to have cover ups. "Of course they were... you couldn't just tell me that you're a werewolf?!"
She furrows her brows and takes a moment to plan what she is going to say. Instead of saying anything, she raises her well manicured hand and swings it right for my face. A pang of pain rushes to my cheek upon impact.
I look down and wait in case she is going to say anything. I deserved the slap, She has every right to be mad. I deserve the heartbreak. I truly do. I didn't think she would react this way, at least not to this extent.
