HEAD UNDER WATER

My head is under water
And I can't find a single inch of air
I stand on my toes and reach
My fingers touch nothing
Except seaweed and sand and sea urchin spines

I breath out
Then in
And remember what it feels like to die
To want to sleep and never wake up

Drowning scares me
But I can't find my breath anymore
All I can hear are the waves against my ears
Feel piranha bites on my wrists
Taste saltwater in my lungs

I can't tell if my eyes are closed
Or if the world is as dark as I see it
But it doesn't matter
Because the water is black
And so is everything else
