**IMPORTANT- After getting to know the characters, I don't feel like the name "Cody" fits him anymore, so starting this chapter I am renaming him Aiden. I'll be changing the previous chapters soon**
Violette dropped me at the dining hall just before lunch, saying she needed to hit the gym before she lost the motivation to do her run. I quickly gathered my lunch and found a table towards the back.
I tried to focus on my book, but my cop thriller just wasnt holding my attention. Was Aiden going to remember our lunch "date"? What if he was too busy with training, or he just decided he didnt want to sit with me anymore.
I drummed my nails on the table, making a satisfying clicking sound. These thoughts bounced around my brain until someone cleared their throat.
I jumped and looked up, gazing right into familiar grey-blue eyes. A half smile spread across Aiden's face and he asked "May I join you?" I returned the smile and nodded.
As he sat down, I realised that he had changed into red athletic shorts, and a grey tank top. The lack of sleeves really let the curves of his biceps be seen. I fought the urge to groan as I followed the lines of his arms to hid broad chest.
"Did you enjoy the library?" He asked me. I patted my pile of five books sitting next to me and said "You could say that." He laughed and dug into his turkey sandwich.
"How was your morning?" I asked. He nodded as he finished the bite he had just taken. After a sip of water, he said "We are doing some boxing today. Today was supossed to be an informational day, but our classroom guy is out on a mission, so I just took everyone into the training gym. I'm not going to throw you straight into fighting, so you can just observe for today."
I suddenly felt nervous. I used to wrestle with my friends growing up, but I had never been in a real fight. I really didn't think I was cut out for this job.
We talked a while more about his day, and then cleared our table before heading out the door and into the maze of halls. I followed I'm silence, my anxiety mounting.
Aiden cut his eyes to me and asked "Nervous?" I nodded and replied "I'm not much of a fighter, beyond some general wrestling matches with my friends back home."
"That's okay." He said, putting his arm across my shoulders. I side stepped so I could be closer to him when he said "Most people come here not knowing anything. Violette used to be the most massive, shy thing you'd ever meet. After the classes, and some training on her end, she's an incredibly good fighter now."
His pep talked helped a bit. I continued taking deep breaths and trying to remind myself that I wont be killed today. Just get my ass kicked.
We came up on a set of metal double doors with a push bar to get in. Aiden Pushed and threw the doors open. I looked around as we entered and felt an odd sense of familiarity. It looked like a high school gym.
The floor was tile and waxed to perfection. One set of black bleachers were closed up on the right side, but the left set were pulled half way out. Two men and a woman sat on the third row, intensely watching the pairs of people sparing on the floor.
Each pair were circling each other on a mat. It looked like the beginning of wrestling matches. Then one person would lunge for the other and the faux brawl would commence.
Aiden put his hand on my shoulder and said "You can go sit with the other new people. This is going to go on for another forty-five minutes or so, then I'm going to cut them early if they do well."
