I jolted up as I felt a pain in my shoulder explode to life. I looked to my right and saw Travis staring at me. His eyebrow was raised and his face held an amused smile.
Oh shit. Had I fallen asleep again? I was on week three of classes, and I was dreadfully bored. I had learned all the interesting stuff in the first week, which made focusing much harder now.
Bellum was where the Devils lived, but nothing more. You are either a Good Soul and end up in Libertas, or a Bad Soul and end up stuck Earth Side. The Warriors of Bellum are sent on missions to go destroy the Bad Souls before the Tenebris get to them.
No one knows much about the Tenebris... other than they feed off fear, hate, and anger. They are dark and vile creatures that can take human form, but are generally seen as jet black, cloudy masses with glowing yellow or orange eyes.
Devils, as we are called down here, each develop special abilities from being down here so long. It also enhances the eyes, which is believed to be a sort of evolutionary trait. The eyes are the window the the Soul, and every Soul looks for its mate. Its supossed to help distract the Souls when destroying them.
That was all covered in great detail in week one. Week two was more on the Tenebris, but really not much else was added. New discoveries from recon missions say that they may have some sort of structure, unlike what was previously thought of them. No word on if they had a command system, but they did seem to have camps all over the place. Before they were suspected to live alone or travel in small packs.
This week is all about how to function Earth Side. They seemed to think we forgot how to be human the short time we had all been dead. The "oldest" dead person here was Anna, who had been here six months before we had enough people to start up classes.
Aiden stayed with me every night the first week I was in Bellum. Week two he stayed in the guest room, which was suprisingly, my idea. I needed to get used to functioning on my own. These last three weeks he had been staying in his own apartment, and so far I seemed to be okay.
Travis shook his head and rolled his eyes before looking back to the front of the room where the instructor, Gina McCarthy, was talking about the importance of never telling a Living Soul what we were.
I spaced out again and looked around the room. We had twelve new people total. Travis, Michael and I sat at one table in the back right of the classroom. Toby, and Dennis sat with Anna infront of us.
To my left was a guy named Markus, his friend Jennelle, and a very quiet kid named Ethan who looked hardly older than 18. At the table infront of them sat Bryan and Hannah, the twins I met along with Travis, and another girl named Emmie.
I did a double take when I saw Bryan has his eyes on me. He was leaned back against the brick wall, his body facing my direction. His head was cocked slightly, and the way he stared at me made me feel like he didnt even notice I was looking back at him.
From under the table, I reached over and tapped Travis' knee. He turned his head to me, before following my gaze. His eyes flashed and he set his jaw tightly.
"What's that freak lookin' at so hard?" He growled. I shrugged, forcing myself to look away. My skin continued to crawl until I looked over at him again. This time, he seemed aware of me, and offered me a smirk before turning back towards the front of the room.
Soon after, Gina dismissed us for the day. We usually finished class around two in the afternoon, which gave us the rest of the day to do whatever we felt like. I followed behind Michael, Travis close behind as we gathered just outside the door.
I was about to tell the others about Bryan, when I heard "Hello, Rosie."
I whirled around and came face to chest with Bryan. He wore a royal blue polo with khaki pants and black shoes. That disgusting smirk was still on his face as he said "You look lovely today."
