Her face wasn't clear enough but she could ascertain that it's a woman, fat and dark in a white blouse, but couldn't place the color of her wrapper and scarf. She was standing so close to the bed, her eyes looking fixedly at hers in a ghastly manner. Kamsi was lying down with her eyes shut but could still discern her. She stretched out her hands towards her, her nails looking long and shapeless, reaching for her neck she squeezed it to strangle her, as Kamsi struggles for breath she placed her hands on hers, holding it firmly and trying to drag it out but wasn't strong enough, at the same time she could hear someone shouting her name.

"Kamsi!", it shouted.

She opened her eyes with her hands on her throat, she could still feel a little pain, she took them off when she realized that it was just a nightmare, the dream felt so real that she thought that she was dying.

"What's wrong with you!", Ugochi shouted on her with a widened eye balls like it will pull out of its socket any moment, "have your members from the secret society come?", she continued, "have they come to attack you.... Tufiakwa!", she snapped her fingers, "who knows what they told you to do that you refused doing!".

Kamsi didn't utter a word, she doesn't have the strength to fight, she just looked at her.

"See the way she's looking at me....no doubt she's one of them!", she hissed as she went to take her bath.

She realized that it's morning and time for church, though everywhere was still dark so out of fear she ran out of the room, she prefers to stay at the back corridor than staying there alone. She wondered how she will be able to go with the bruise in her eyes. People will definitely stare at her for sure and she would probably won't be able to handle it.
Their mother came out of their father's bedroom to get ready as well.

"where is that girl?... Kamsi!", she yelled.

"Maaa!", she answered and went to meet her.

"Hope you are preparing"

"Ehhh!", she answered.

"Good for you!", she scorned.

Ugochi came out of the bathroom and her mother entered so she has to wait, but while waiting she sought her dress. Their mother finished taking her bath and as she enters, she heard their father open his door to enquire if they are ready.

"So you are still preparing whereas you woke up before me", he shouted at their mother and she made an excuse of the zip to her bag getting hooked which he made a remark about her being stupid, "who is in that bathroom", he asked.

"Sirrr!", answered Kamsi.

"I know it's no one else but you", he shouted and called on Ifechi who has already dressed up to come and lock the door as he left for church.

Kamsi hurriedly took her bath and prepared to meet up with time. The sermon for the day was about child upbringing, as the priest was preaching, she wished that her parents were listening and will change from the way they treat her but she's sure they won't, this is not the first time it's been preached.
When they got home, she and her sister started preparing for lunch, she has to take pity on herself and eat because none of them cared if she starves to dead, all they cared about was for tomorrow to come so that she will go for the test. Their parents didn't stop calling her names throughout the day.
The next day which was the D-Day, Kamsi woke up very early unlike other days and prepared wearing her school uniform, as she waits for their mother, she heard their father's voice at the passage.

"Who did this?... who left this meat to spoil?", he asked after opening the refrigerator.

Kamsi jumped out of the bed she was sitting on and went to meet him with her heart slamming against her chest.
