Kamsi stood by the gate and thought of continuous knocking and pleading, but she knows her father too well and what he can do, that could mean inflicting more pains and bruises on herself. She went downstairs as she contemplates on what to do. She pondered on going over to Nonso's place but doesn't know how well her parents would take it and that was the only place she had in mind, she doesn't have any other close friend apart from her so she decided to give it a try. As she walks through the tiled road engulfed in a deep thought, a car nearly crushed her as it swiftly halted some inches away from her.
"Are you blind!", shouted the driver and Kamsi immediately moved out of the way when she realized that she has been walking along the busy lane. He hissed and speed off.
She got to Nonso's house and knocked, a boy who appears to be in his mid-tweenties came and opened the door.
"Good evening", she greeted.
"Good evening", he replied, "who are you looking for?"
"Nonso!", she answered.
He quietly looked at her for some minutes and Kamsi already knows what could be going on in his mind, she silently waits for him to speak but wished he doesn't ask her what happened to her eyes and body as he stare at her.
"I will get her for you", he said and shut the door as he went inside the house, within a few minutes, the door opens again and this time it was Nonso.
"Is everything alright?", she asked looking worried as she closed the door behind her and took her farther away along the staircase.
"No", she shook her head trying to hold the tears from coming out.
"What does the result say?", she asked noticing the bruises on her face and body.
"It's positive", she cried.
"Oh my God!", she exclaimed.
"They threw me out of the house and I don't have anywhere else to go", she continued.
"What are you going to do now?"
"I don't know!", she answered as she continued to cry.
"It's okay!", she said cleaning her eyes, "let's go in", she took her by the hand as they entered inside the house.
"Good evening ma! Good evening sir!", she greeted as she saw Nonso's parents sitting together on a long cushion.
"How are you?", they asked.
"I'm fine"
"No she's not!", Nonso interrupted.
"Who is she?", asked Nonso's mother.
"She's Kamsi", she introduces.
"Your friend?"
"yes the one I told you about"
"What happened to her?", she looked at Kamsi pitifully as she noticed the bruise on her.
"It's positive!", Nonso answered disappointinly and Kamsi was surprised at the way Nonso talks with her mother and for her to already know about her ordeal. She couldn't believe it for the moment as It looks so weird to her that a mother could be this close to her daughter to the extent of knowing the things that are going on in her life. She now became uncomfortable at the stare of her mother, her eyes full of compassion towards her.
"Was that the reason they beat her this way?", she said refferring to the bruises on her skin, "do you have a boyfriend?", she asked and Kamsi shook her head in disagreement, "did you have sex with anyone without protection?", she continued and she kept shaking her head.
