What a battle there was yesterday! Darius had gathered an army of Bactrians, Indians, Medians, Sogdians, and Albanians to fight with his Persians and Greeks. What an army!
At the beginning of the battle, Darius had his men come down hard on us and the result was a separation of our two wings. Our army was split in two! We began to break up, but our cavalry under Alexander charged Darius, forcing his retreat. With that, the battle, and also the Persian Empire, was over. There is the sound of cheering in the camp as I write this, and we will march on Babylon, Susa, and Persepolis next.
