July 18, 326 B.C.

It has been a hard march, so there was no time to write.  We would get up before the sun, march all day, and way after the sun went down set up camp, too tired to do anything but sleep.  However, we stopped in the middle of the afternoon at the banks of the river Hydaspes.  It is a very large river that will take a whole day to cross, so Alexander gave the order to rest for the rest of the day and to cross the river tomorrow.

There is what seems to be a large thunderstorm growing not far away from us.  I think that the storm will greatly hinder our crossing to attack the Indian king Porus, which is just across the river.  This will be the greatest battle since Gaugamela, where we defeated Darius.
