Clem was a popular girl. She was always the girl every other girl aspired to be like. She was a star basketball, (I know her cap is related to baseball, but I wanted to do something different.), player in her high school and everyone came to her games to see her play.
"Clem, look at everyone, they love you." A fellow player by the name of Mariana said as she pointed to all the fans after Clem had just hit her 3rd consecutive 3 point shot.
"You're on fire Clem. Keep it up." Their coach named Lilly said as she high fived Clem. Clem could see a very out of place blonde she's not used to seeing at these games. She wore all dark clothing and was alone. She sat by herself in the corner, watching the game.
"Clem focus." Lilly said.
"Sorry. Just lost track of thought." Clem said as they went over the game plan.
"Alright Mariana I need you to get Clem open as much as possible. She's shooting like a pro out there and I want to capitalize on that. Of course if you're open, take the shot. Alright? Break." "BREAK!" All of them said in unison.
"Do you know that blonde over there?" Clem asked Mari as they walked back onto the court.
"Yeah, her name is Violet. She's not really anything to worry yourself over." Mari said.
"Hey, be nice. You don't know the shit she's possibly been through." Clem said as everyone got in their spots. Mari got the ball and ran down the court, the rest of the team following suit, and Mari passed the ball to Clem, who was trying to get open but couldn't so she passed it to a girl on the inside and they made a layup. The cheers were rising from the crowd. Clem looked over at the blonde again and she still had that same blank stare.
The game went on for another quarter and finally, Clem's team won. They had gotten back to the locker room and were cheering for Clem.
"Clem, you were amazing out there." Mari said.
"Yeah...thanks." Clem said. She was still kinda mad over her comment about Violet earlier. After Clem had gotten changed she left the building. On her way back to her car, she noticed the same blonde, smoking a cigarette. The girl hadn't even noticed Clem standing there yet.
"Hey." Clem said. Violet looked startled, as if she was completely zoned out the entire time until Clem said something.
"Oh...hi." Violet said as she shoved the cigarette into the wall, putting it out.
"I'm not used to you seeing you at these games. You're Violet right?" Clem asked.
"Yeah. I'm surprised you know my name. Did you come out here to make fun of me like everyone else does?" Violet asked.
"What? No. I'm not like that." Clem said.
"That's a shocker. Your friend doesn't appear to be the same way." Violet said as she leaned against the wall. Clem walked over and leaned against it as well.
"My friend? Are you talking about Mari?" Clem asked.
"Call her whatever you want, she'll always be "The Bitch" to me. She picks on me daily for being different." Violet said.
"Really? I'm so sorry Violet. I'll talk to her later and see what her deal is. You said you were different. How so? If you don't mind me asking." Clem said.
"I'm a lesbian. She throws slurs at me every time she sees me in the hallway, causing everyone to call me names and laugh at me." Violet said.
"I am so sorry Violet. Don't think you're alone though. I'll be your friend." Clem said.
"You're...not like the others. Are you sure you want to do that?" Violet asked.
"Why wouldn't I? You've done nothing wrong to me." Clem said.
