Chapter 1
First day…
“Everyone listen up.” Mrs. Jung said loudly to the noisy class. “Sit down please.” she shouted again. The students finally settled down on their seats and gave Mrs. Jung a greeting.
“Who’s she? Pretty cute, eh?!” a male student yelled. I immediately found the person who said it and my face turned red. I shifted my gaze from him when I realized he was eying me up and down. A lot of the other students did the same too. They looked at me from every strand of my hair to the very bottom of my shoes. I don’t like the way they look at me. –.–
“That’s what I’m going to tell the class, Jang-hoon. Where’s your best friend?” Mrs. Jung asked sweetly.
“He told me he’s not coming today.” the guy replied rather lazily.
What’s this guy’s name? Jang-hoon? Why are you looking at me like that??
“Alright class, this is Nam Hye-kyung, a transferred student from Daegu High. She will be joining us today onwards, so please welcome her.”
“Welcome to class 3-1” the class chanted and I bowed to them as a sign of greeting.
“Let’s see where I can put you Hye-kyung.” Mrs. Jung said and scanned the class.
“Seon-saeng-nim, she can sit next to me! Here! Here!” Jang-hoon started shouting again and waved his hands frantically in the air. He was sitting at the back of the class, just next to the window.
The whole class laughed at him but he wasn’t embarrassed – I was.
“You seem very enthusiastic today Jang-hoon.” Mrs. Jung teased. “I wonder why.”
“I’m very enthusiastic for pretty girls. ^_^ ” he said cheekily.
“Oooohhh…” the whole class cheered for him again. My face got even redder.
“Quiet class.” Mrs. Jung ordered and the class went silent again. “Did you say Oh Hae-young wouldn’t be in class today, Jang-hoon?”
“He said so.” the boy said.
“Then you’re lucky today.” she told him with a smile. She then turned to me and said, “Hye-kyung, you can sit next to him for the time being.”
I nodded and saw that guy raising his fists and hissed “Yes! Yes! Woohoo~ >o< ” I guess he must be Mrs. Jung’s favorite student. She ‘sent’ me to him and not any others. But HE was the only one who behaved like a fool.
I walked towards him and smiled to a couple of girls I was passing. Just in front of that boy, there was this empty seat next to a cute girl. Why not let me sit there?? TT_TT As I got nearer to the boy, he suddenly stood up and bowed to me. I jumped in reflect.
“안녕하세요! 내이름은박장훈이에요. 만아서반가워요! [Hello! My name’s Park Jang-hoon. Nice to meet you!]” he said and then pulled the chair for me to sit.
I wish he hadn’t done that. Everyone was watching us with much interest. This silly boy. I forced a smile and slowly got to my seat. Soon, he plopped next to me, looking at me with too much of enthusiasm.
–_–;;
This Park Jang-hoon is starting to get on my nerves. Thanked God the girl sitting in front of me pulled me with her for the Korean War group discussion before Jang-hoon could.
“Yah Kim Eun-ji! You snatched my partner!” Jang-hoon protested.
“Who says she’s your partner Park Jang-hoon?” Eun-ji smirked. She was this cute looking girl with 2 buns on her head. She reminded me a lot as to how Chun Li in Street Fighter tied her hair.
“She is. Aren’t you, Hye-kyung?” Eun-ji asked.
“Err…” I looked around with confusion.
“Don’t bother him, Hye-kyung. He’s annoying.” Eun-ji said and gave Jang-hoon a smug look.
“YOU!!” he yelled and stood up all of a sudden.
“Jang-hoon, what is it?” Mrs. Jung asked when she saw him.
“Nothing… Just some problems with this brainiac.” he mumbled his last few words and slowly sat back again, glaring at Eun-ji mercilessly.
“Hye-kyung ah, I’ll tell you certain things about this class and the people you should notice.” Eun-ji said when there was a change of lesson two hours later. We had gotten closer after the group discussion. We talked about everything, but I just think I could never match up her intelligence though.
“The boy next to you is you-know-who and he’s our top student in this class. I’m always after him no matter how hard I tried! Can you believe he was put in the first position when our score was equal for last year’s final exams?! He knows how to make teachers love him. <_< ”
I registered the new information almost immediately. I would definitely remember that Jang-hoon, especially his talk-time to me – it was unbelievable.
“Now see that girl there?” Eun-ji started saying again and slightly brought up her finger to point at a pretty girl with long hair just across the room.
I noticed the girl was the one who was rather flirty in the class. I saw her flirting with Jang-hoon and some other guys during the group discussion just now.
“That girl’s Kang Sung-hee. She’s a flirt and I hate the way she sticks herself to Jang-hoon and Hae-young. She’s not very nice either.” Eun-ji snorted. I agree with you, somehow Kang Sung-hee’s behavior’s pissing me off.
“Oh my gosh, look at Jang-hoon!! o_O ” Eun-ji suddenly gasped.
I turned my head and saw Jang-hoon dancing in front of Sung-hee. Everyone started clapping and chanted his name over and over again while watching him dance – a dance that singer Bi, did in his 안녕이란말대신 song. Jang-hoon did it pretty well. That guy sure knows a lot of things.
Then… BAM!!!
The door burst open and the room went silent.
