Colby Brock + Traphouse Story: Violet is just a normal girl, freshly graduated from high school with big plans to move out to Los Angeles to potentially begin a music career. She currently lives in Miami, Florida with a part time job at the local Starbucks with her "work" friends Amelia and Ethan. She's got a best friend, Corey, who's moved out from Florida a few years before to live with his friends out in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, Devyn. Does Violet take the opportunity to leave to her old life behind and head to LA with Corey and Devyn? It's all up to her. It can either be the ride of a lifetime, or a hell of a nightmare.
-Violet's POV-
As any other day, it was just a normal morning out in Miami. I'm still living in my parents house, praying to soon be able to move somewhere where it'd be easier to start an actual career. Preferably Los Angeles. It was about 7 a.m., and I walked out into the kitchen with a cropped t-shirt, grey sweatpants and my hair in a messy bun. My parents were already off to work, and I had to quickly do the same. I grabbed a granola bar from the cupboard and skipped off into my room to make myself presentable for work.
"Another day, another 9 to 5 shift." I mumbled to myself as I slipped into my work uniform and finished up the final touches to my eye makeup. As soon as I was done, I went to the laundry room to grab my keys to my car along with my purse. I got into my car and pushed the garage button on the opener as I began to pull out of my garage. I looked to the right, the house next to mine. It's where Corey and his family used to live. They only moved to another city in Florida, but an older couple lives in their house and it's just not the same. "God, I miss Corey. We had so many memories in that house." I wasn't wrong, Corey was the older brother I never had.
I closed the garage door and tried to smear away my upsetting mood over my childhood memories by turning on the radio. The radio played 'Designer - by Gianni & Kyle'. I hummed to the melody and drove myself out to work. Shortly after a few, I pulled into the back parking lot reserved for workers and adjusted my 'Starbucks' visor into my hair. "Today's gonna be a long day." I puffed out my cheeks and blew out the air filling them.
I jingled my keys and cheesily smiled as I made my way into the preparation area. "Morning Amelia, morning Ethan." "Someone's happy today aren't they?" Ethan sarcastically joked with me. "Alright what's making you upset?" Amelia placed her elbow on my shoulder and leaned her head against it. "Guys, I'm good. It's just that I'm tired, I'm trying to be enthusiastic." Jeez, I thought they'd get my humor after being friends with them since middle school. Ethan laughed, "I know, I know. But you know work is already a show with you working here."
"Hell yeah it is." Amelia tagged along with Ethan's overly true statement. Haha, I just dissed myself. "Hey!" I pretended to be upset, "you guys are so mean to me."
"It's meant all out of love." Amelia nodded as she sipped her cold brew that she wasn't even supposed to have. I gave her a look like she was crazy, "Uh huh, I'm sure it is."
The speakers in the small coffee shop began to play 'Pretty Face - by Public'. The work day was pretty slow, it was only about 12:30 p.m. but the music was actually good today so I was able to pull through better than most days. I tapped my fingers to the beat of the song and sang quietly as I waited for another customer to open the door, "Would you love her, the way that she loved you? Oh woah oh oh oh."
Just then, the door opened and the bell grabbed my attention. I spun myself around to face the register. "Hello, welcome to Starbucks. My name is Violet-." I cut myself off, "Wait a minute...Corey?" I knew he came back to visit Florida every so often but Corey was never the coffee-drinking type of guy. He also looked different. He now had a man bun but he had that same recognizable features. Apparently I've looked the same since I was twelve, but I might be the only one who thinks that. I'm 19 years old now."Violet? Like as in my neighbor, the girl I grew up with Violet?" Corey's eyebrows suddenly cocked upward and I grinned. "Oh my god!" He reached over the counter to hug me. A girl came in a few moments after and walked up next to Corey. She held onto his arm gently but ladylike. She was short, very petite, but absolutely stunning. Her eyelashes were bold, but just the right amount. I stumbled across my words and smoothed out my green apron, "Oh- hi." I smiled and she smiled back at me. "Violet, I'd like you to meet Devyn. Devyn is my girlfriend and we've been dating for a few years. She's from Florida too." Corey made a light hand gesture to introduce us. "It's great to meet you. But, how do you know Corey?" She seemed a little concerned, but she also came off as being super shy. "Well you see, Corey was my neighbor for as long as I can remember. You know, he was like the older brother I never had." There was a moment of silence between all of us.
"Well anyway, maybe you and I can catch up sometime. I'd love to fill you in on everything that's happened since we've been disconnected. Just message me on Instagram after your shift and we'll swap numbers then." Finally! Something to look forward to. But holy shit, man, I was absolutely ecstatic to see Corey since he's been gone. "As of now we'll just take one grande iced coconut milk latte and a grande Americano." He pulled a Starbucks card from his wallet. "Since when have you been a coffee drinker?" I sarcastically joked with him as I playfully snatched the card from his hand. "Things change when you become an adult, Vi." Corey joked back, and Devyn smiled.
"One Americano, and one iced coconut milk latte for Corey and Devyn." Ethan placed their order on the table next to my register, and gave me a look. Oou someone's jealous. I'm kidding, but I know Ethan's always had a thing for me. "I hope you guys have an amazing day, and a nice visit back here at home. It's great to see you again."
"You too!" I saluted my head towards them, as they smiled back and took the drink carrier to their car.
"So, who exactly was that?" I thought Ethan was joking around with me, but he seemed to have had a serious tone in his voice. "Really Ethan? He has a girlfriend, he was my best friend growing up. Nothing to worry about buddy." I tried to make myself come off as being fake mad, but apparently it was a little too real. I walked past him, my hand brushed over his as I made my way to the preparation kitchen to make more drinks.
Author's Note:
Hi! Most of you know me as @/KianandColby on Instagram but this is the official introduction to the story "All Because of You". Just kind of a quick idea I came up with, with a little inspiration. Hopefully it's a little bit interesting. But what is Corey going to tell Violet all about? Does Ethan actually have feelings for Violet, or is he just jealous over the strength of Corey & Violet's friendship? You'll just have to wait until I publish the next chapter!
